Guilt Trip

My first ever blog, and a confession to make. I was strimming a bank today to try to prevent too many celandines seeding into the lawn, and wildlife was far from my mind. I never noticed a little sloworm popping out to take the air, and I caught it with the strimmer blade. I feel terrible. It waved its little black tongue at me but didn’t seem able to move back into the bank. So unfair after it had survived this awful winter to be damaged when it wakes up to enjoy the sunshine – and not a thing I could do to repair the damage.

Never mind Steragram - these things do happen, even if we do not mean them to. At least it's a lesson learned.

ooh poor worm, but you didnt do it on purpose

No I didn't - but reptiles are sort of more special than earthworms, and a lot less common!

Try not to get too vexed about it Steragram, you were both at the wrong place at the wrong time, I know we've all done something similar at some time, and at least you're lovely enough to care. :0)

There are horrid people who intentionally run over snakes and turtles in the road. I've seen drivers swerve to hit squirrels and chipmunks. You couldn't help it, so please don't feel guilty. Libet is right, we've all done something similar....I accidentally dropped a newborn kitten at work one day and it died. I felt just as bad as you do but it was just something that happened, it wasn't carelessness.

Thanks for your encouragement folks - true, these things can't be helped. Lauram, I really feel for you - I'm sure you must have felt a lot worse than I did. Reminds me of the time I stuck a nappy pin through the baby's skin as well as the nappy - felt I wasn't fit to be a mother! No such problems these days with high tech nappies are there?

Hi Steragram ...

Main thing is that you care about the wildlife ...

It is those who hurt creatures and people intentionally which are the problem...

Good going....publishing your first blog....you couldn't help the mishap in the garden with your little creature..it is easily done.

Accidents happen...it's when intentionally harmed it is a very nasty thing to do.
