Just a warning that this seems to be spreading up from the southern nurseries that have had it a while. I found an infected bush this morning.Have put this on questions as well so nobody misses it.

That's a real shame Stera ... I binned almost all of my Fuchsias last year! :o((

Next door has a lot of Fuchsias, but never seen anything on them yet.

I will have to keep a look out for it. I'm sorry about your bush.

Thanks Stera, I too don't know anything about that so will also have to read up on it...Ironically I've bought lots of new Fuschia's this year, felt like having a change for my pots and troughs....

I've read up about it here, on Wikipedia:

Thank you for reading my blog folks. I hope you never need the info! I hadn't heard of it either - three cheers for the people who kindly write about pests for us! It was a good thing I saw it when I did as the only "cure" is apparently to cut off all the affected branches and if that's all of it you have to dig it up and burn it.
Lincs you don't need to worry yet, its apparently not got any further than the south so far.
Shirley I was sorry you had to bin your fuchsias - what was wrong with them?
Balcony thank you for your useful link.

Stera, have a look at the question I asked re. Fuchsia Rust. You commented on it and hoped it wouldn't spread around the country!
The only Fuchsias I now have (saved from last year) are 'Lady Boothby' ... and 'Swingtime' which was bought a couple of weeks ago.

Oh dear. Hoping obviously isn't enough! The answer seems to be constant vigilance. I have had a small outbreak of rust but mercifully caught it in time.
Swingtime is a beauty. I only get hardy ones because of overwintering space and I can't bear discarding healthy plants at the end of the season. (Schneeball is a hardy one that's very similar)
Seeing Parks Dept men taking up even summer bedding before its finished still upsets me a bit. What an idiot...

Hi Stera
I have read a report its on the American Fuchsia Society page ( see below) ... they do spray and plants in the garden they remove all the leaves from the plant , they did mention a oil based spray ? but that need to be used over a 3 to 4 week period.
hummingbird visits spreads the mite !!! something we dont have to worry about here in the UK

Ah well, it was a nice thought while it lasted...

It is a problem here in the UK I have been told you can treat it with chicken mite spray haven’t had gallmite so cant say if it works.

Must bear that in mind if I get any more.

Like you, Stera, I don't like taking up healthy plants at the end of the year either. I don't have any fuchsia's now but thanks for the warning, with so many treatments banned in the UK I can only imagine how problem pests will increase.

Hi Sue, I've given this a like because you've had the forethought to let others know, {I don't have any Fuchsia's at the moment} but it's very considerate of you to let people know, Derek.
