Red and Green Kangaroo Paw

Here is another special plant from Western Australia, this one is the floral emblem of the State. Its called the Red and Green Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos manglesii) and flowers between August and November. This plant is found throughout the South West of the State. The species is not threatened, but is protected under state legislation. A license is required for their collection because of it’s long living in a vase which makes it very desirable as a cut flower. The Anigozanthos family have many various members and I have seen one species for sale here in Britain but I havn’t so far heard of the Red and Green one being cultivated in this country.
