Holey Places
5 comments
In January, my partner and I drove to the Elan Valley Visitor Centre for a drink. Parking near the village we took the path through the wood towards the Centre.
As we walked along, I took photographs and realised after a while that a theme was emerging i.e. ‘holes’.
The first was a bird house attached to a tree. Alongside were two holes, and I half expected the neighbours to emerge for a chat.
Then we came across another hole; on the ground this time, alongside a young silver birch. It reminded me of a tunnel entrance.
Still with eyes down, we came across another, well hidden beneath a boulder…
…and yet another…a keyhole carved from wood.
The next one (or two) looked like eyes glowering from their covering of moss
Further on was a larger, more open and welcoming hole.
Then another, man made, which doesn’t quite have the same appeal as that of the more natural homes
Another rather sleepy eyed face
This was more wigwam than hole
And this…definitely for otters and other watery inhabitants
The next hole was more a shelter type, with its own door step…
…a proper job, very snug and welcoming
That was the last one we spotted before we entered the Visitor Centre. Nature certainly has her holey places but on cold winter days, I must confess to preferring man-spaces with central heating and all mod cons!
