Spring comes to Hergest Croft
7 comments
It’s April at last and with the weather being sunny and dry my partner and I decided to visit Hergest Croft near Kington. We wondered if the Rhododendrons were out yet and, apart from being delayed by a farmer driving his sheep along the road, we soon arrived to find that indeed they were!
We love to sit down…
…and enjoy the colours…
…and shapes of the blossoms
The way the light falls…
reflecting on leaves…
…creating an illusion of frost on flowers
Light also helps to define shapes…
…and shadows
We move on, spotting this tree trying out a spot of tree hugging!
The tulips are bold and want to be noticed
fritillaries and violets are more on the shy side
…and the newt is too busy chasing his hearts shadow to even notice.
A long line of daffodils leads to a log…
And logs remind us to sit down and take in the surroundings…
… the house…
…the gardens…
…the estate beyond
All around us flowers bloom…
…and lambs announce that ‘Yes, spring is definitely here!’
Our minds turn to home and our own garden, so up we get and through the gate we go…
…conscious of the fact that we are a week behind in Wales and therefore enjoy an extended show!

Thank you for your comments(and thoughts). I never feel busy yet when I sit down and think about it, I AM always busy! I have already 'been away' twice this year and that doesn't include holidays! I do look at GOY regularly, just don't have the time to sit and write!
I made a concerted effort yesterday...sat down...doorbell rang; someone I've not seen for some time 'happened to be in the area'...sat down again...doorbell rang; local politician canvassing...phone rang...SOS from neighbour...out I go....whilst out, message left on my phone...SOS from a friend who lives nearby...out I go again...come back...partner's home: "What time's dinner?" ...cook dinner...eat...zzzzzzzzzzzz
Never mind, it's the weekend tomorrow AND a bank holiday! Might squeeze in another blog!

Looking at this in December is a real tonic for me TWH. Thanks for sharing it. I may appear to be ‘late’, but no, I found this at exactly the right time! Beautiful. You are a great observer! :)

You're certainly week or so behind us here in West Wales. It was nice to see spring flowers all over again, and to enjoy the lambs. We have always had lambs near us before but this year I haven't heard any. Maybe the farmer has retired, if they ever do! Weren't the fritillaries lovely - so nice to see them in meadowland rather than a garden bed, but we can't all manage that! I did like the bench made from a tree trunk.
I thought about you only yesterday when I was looking at one of our big sycamores and saw a wonderful face in the trunk - wondered whether to photo it for you but as its ages since you've been on I thought maybe you wouldn't see it.
