Tiny Fuchsias

I have had a few over the years but none that lasted as long as x bacillaris and Isis Lemoine kindly sent by other Goy members. This year, with lockdown, I bought others with birthday money which have flowered all summer long. In late September they were all cut back and put to bed in the greenhouse for the winter. ( It was done this early as I was due to have a hand op 5th October and wasn’t sure what I’d be able to do one handed).
Some people like the big blousy Fuchsias but the tiny ones fascinate me. Although the Encliandra types are small they are beautifully formed fuchsias. Some of mine are supposed to be hardy but I didn’t want to take a risk the first year.

Silver Lining didn’t seem to thrive as much as the others but maybe if I can overwinter it might get better. I’ve found over the years variegated and different leaf types don’t seem to be as hardy.

The next is microphylla pink, another sent by a member which is also Encliandra type.

The originals I mentioned at the top have stayed out for the winter on shelves for a few years now. This gives a bit of protection from too much winter wet and wind although I have a couple of cuttings as backup in the greenhouse.

The above were taken today but I just came across these. They were taken when they first came in for winter.

I also have Francis Haskins (a white flowered encliandra) but no flowers at the moment and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to look at the leaves and some Encliandra “babies” growing from seed.
