A Sad and a Happy day

Hi all,
Haven’t blogged for a couple of months mainly due to all my free time being taken up with visits to the vet.
Some of you may remember that we wrote about Kelly having her heart surgery last year and being on the mend.
Well, she was doing quite well up until Christmas. Her heart rate had improved but it was still very erratic and her lungs had enlarged quite considerably and she was constantly struggling to remove fluid from them.
On Christmas day – of all days – when vets cost £200 just to speak to them on the phone – she had 2 heart seizures.
She survived both of them but from there on she gradually went downhill.
So much so that by yesterday morning she was really struggling to breath.
This a picture of her just before we took her to the vets for the last time and you can see the hurt in her eyes – the sparkle had gone.
So sadly, on the vets advice we let her go to sleep for the last time.
Yesterday afternoon a friend of ours who heard the sad news about Kelly informed us of some puppies for sale that she knew that we would be interested in.
So please say hello to Bonnie the Westie.
She was born on 5th November 2011 so is just 8 weeks old.
Kelly will be an irreplaceable dog as she was one in a million so we didn’t want to go with another German Shepherd for the time being.
We would take this opportunity to wish everybody a very happy new year.
Please don’t be sad for us or for Kelly.
We rescued her from an environment that was totally bad and gave her a happy and loving home for the rest of her short life.
She had the very best vet care that money could buy – even if it was from an insurance company – and her quality of life because of our intervention improved greatly.
We are now looking forward to spring and summer so that Bonnie can grow and enjoy our garden with us.
We will post more photos later in the year.
Now to mend that pesky fence that was blown down in yesterdays gales.

I,m sure you,ll have fun with Bonnie, I had a westie when I was a teenager, she was such a character with a mind of her own (like all terriers!!) and such fun.

I'm sorry to hear about Kelly, but at least you have the memories.
Congratulations on Bonnie, she is such a cute puppy. I remember when I was smaller and my Nan's best friend and neighbour bought a westie puppy. She invited my my sister and I round to play with it.
I have a feeling she will be getting up to mischief in no time, but you can't be angry with her when she has a face like that.
