Containers

I started thinking about the different kinds of containers we use for flowers. Fresh from the garden, remembrance for an important event, a gift, or a cheer-up message. I am posting some of my containers and would love to see what other people use.

I love the roses in the jug. I'm afraid I'm rather boring and tend to use glass vases for all my flowers.

Hello Wells ..
I don't have space for indoor flowers and indoor plants, but it's interesting seeing your photos.

All lovely containers Wells, especially that jug:-))

I use a variety Wells, vases of all shapes and sizes, both glass and pottery and I also have a decorative jug that was a present xmas gift from one of my brothers nearly 50yrs ago, it gets used if I'm lucky enough to receive a huge bouquet.. I have a silver rose bowl with a mesh top that I use when the sweetpeas are in bloom. My cacti and indoor plants are in pots of all shapes and sizes, I have a swan, cat, watering cans and cup and saucer all with xmas cacti in, little metal buckets, a frying pan shaped pot, quite a few decorative boots, in fact anything that looks good and will hold a plantpot or a bunch of flowers....

wildflowers in jam jars. snowdrops in a moss filled wine glass or some times a sherry schooner. lily of the valley and ivy in a small pewter tankard that has the date/time of our wedding engraved on it. lily of the valley & ivy were part of my wedding bouquet. then I have a range of glass/crystal/pottery vases and bowls too.

love your 'vessels' too. Good question to pose in a blog. :o)

I tend to do ikebana ; I went to a class years ago , and it makes a few flowers go along way ; I have several different containers for this .
My cellar steps are covered with various containers for indoor plants , and vases for flowers too large for ikebana .
I tend to "acquire" pots and vases on a regular basis , much to OH's dismay !
I'll put some pics on soon , just to show how I might have lost the plot !

Driad I get moaned at each time I add a new one and yet its often the family at fault as they often buy me them as gifts, lol.....

Driad...I can't wait to see your ikebana! I saw one on telly last night and loved it. I'd love to learn how to create floral art like that. I prefer it to formal floristry. I also love informal garden flowers in jugs, and wildflowers....from one extreme to the other...which is typical of me I think! :)

I like small arrangements of very little flowers, which are great as little "cheer up" gifts when needed, and I have lots of very small vases. I love jugs too. My favourite big container is a metallic glazed grey urn made by the monks of Priknash Abbey. Had it for years and it got cracked but OK mended it for me.
Sadly our present house hasn't really got a good place for a large arrangement, except on the hearth.

I am glad to see OH is now promoted to OK !

Alas we can all make mistakes!

Mistakes....I sent this off to the publisher before finishing. Oh, well, I will now have to think of something else. Thanks so much for all the nice comments anyway. It makes sense to me to have one real flower in a container than a hundred fake ones in gold.

Hear hear!!

I've taken some pictures of the containers on the cellar steps , and I'll put them on , Wells .
I should have arranged them better , really , but hey ....
I love your first picture , the colours are lovely .
Karen , I'll put on some of the ikebana stuff when I have time , lots of it at the back of a kitchen cupboard at the moment . It can be sooo pretty when done properly .
( Could do with a refresher course !)

Thanks for sharing your beautiful ideas and pics.....I have some containers laying around in the store room and I guess I can put them to good use.
