Clematis Armandii is stunning....evergreen, with lovely white flowers. It's a bit vigorous though, and needs a firm hand :)

C. Armandii has lovely scented creamy flowers, but the leaves are not very attractive: quite large and leathery . . . it is evergreen though!

I was having a look Yorkshire...C. 'Lansdown Gem'..Group 1 looks good, red in colour, flowers Dec-Feb...10-12ft...C.'Ourika Valley' is creamy lemon , flowers Nov-Feb...:>)

Puddleduck/Sheila. Do you protect your C Armandii in Winter? Thought I'd lost mine last Winter and the Winter before that, but rallyed round both times, it has leaves again but still tiny. On a south facing wall too.
Sorry to cash in York :)

I love clematis armandii and have had varying results.
I chose it for the evergreen leaves as I wanted a fast grower to make a canopy on a pergola.
The best was planted against a north facing wall. In just two years, it spread out and up to be a mass of fragrant flowers and a fabulous green canopy.
I've since planted others for the same purpose in full sun (roots shaded) and they've not done nearly as well. Also, they seem to make lots of growth after they've flowered...and can look pretty awful for a while in between.

Hi Yorkshire,
Campsis is really beautiful and, in time, even the trunks are magnificent! It's not evergreen here, but it's lovely and worth waiting for every year...
...enjoy!

How about Clematis Nepaulensis Yorkie, Andrewr has one..depends on how much space you have. I have "Freckles", not supposed to be really, really hardy, mine is on a northeastern wall but sheltered by the lilac tree. I have to trim it back regularly, went up thru the tree last year. However, its not the most exciting clematis Ive seen. The interest is on the inside of the bells, which you only see when up close and have to look inside. Outside is cream. Pinky speckledy inside.
Nepaulensis is combo of purple and cream, pretty shape and you see both colours immediately.
