ello :) Revamp. Removing ivy, and new plants..

Hi everyone, me and the hub have been really buzy in the house, had a huge project, still ongoing!! well i had to drag him away to help me with a problem in my tropical border. I took plenty of before during and after pics :) then accidently deleted them :( grrrrr, dont you just hate it when that happens..

The ivy on the fence was becoming a problem, it was growing in between ours and neighbours fence, I started cutting it back and went too far lol .so decided to clear the lot out including a huge mock orange and a thorny tall shrubby plant i long forgot the name of, took us 2 weekends to clear and build new fencing, I also took out (temporarily) some of my precious “tropicals” because hub doesen’t look where he trods with his toecap boots haha, he still managed to shred a big daddy hosta at the front of the border, silly me, i should of moved it..:)

Before pic, from 2008…

I Decided to use Bamboo screening to match the other side of the garden..

I bought a purple Clematis & Red clematis (can’ find the labels) to grow up the screening, and a rodgersia was planted yesterday, my sort of plant, Perrenial, Hardy and fantastic exotic looking leave’s…I love it..

Still no annuals planted yet, we are way behind up here, the weather is awfull, its raining cold and windy today..
I Still need to shop for more plants, i want a Cordy for the lefthand side of the border as ive decided to only go for hardy plants now, ive tried the more tender and i am just wasting my money, My Ensetti overwintered in my bedroom didn’t survive! probably too warm and dry. I Lost every Canna in the greenhouse, my new Passion flower (lavender Lady) didn’t make it either :(

I took this just after we finished the border, its all filling out beautifully now, Its like winter out there today, ill take some pics when its warmer and brighter..

I put the lights back in a couple of weeks ago, We still need to install some on the other side of the garden..

And the big job we have been doing in the house.. Its took up loads of our time and money, So we are now skint lol..

Nice to see you back Daisy. the garden and kitchen look great. we all had some plant losses, even down here in the soft south. I lost all my clematis on fences, the ones in pots did ok. lets hope for a better summer, but even if we dont get it you can retire to your gleaming new kitchen. : o))

Welcome back Dee and can see you've both been very busy with the stunning kitchen and beautifull garden. Could sit out there all evening and just admire esp with them lights. Can only imagine what it looks like as the camera never does it justice to what its actually like. Sorry to hear about your plants and know how you feel. I've lost a few this year but more through slugs/snails and being my 1st garden didn't really know what would grow in my clay like soil.
Look forward to seeing more pics soon
Steve

Thanks for your comments Folks, lol pansypotter, I could see him standing on it but thought id better not say anything because it could of ended in an argument as he was really tired at the time..
Sorry to hear you lost your Clematis Mageth, Mine did OK, Coming into bloom any second, Lost a few pots tho :( mustn't of been frostproof..
Yeah steve the lights look much better than in the pic, I must of took about 20 pics to get one decent shot, Do you use Pellets for the snails? Ive tried everything there is to try and find there the only thing that works. as for the Ivy, Cut it back Hard, It can be a pest..

31 May, 2010

Yes pellets are the only way i've found. Harsh death for them but if they won't take the hint then thats there problem. Just removed 1 panel of ivy. Going to do a blog now on ivy.
