Thank you Lincslass and Rose1949, my pond is still looking good but unfortunately I did not realize that the frogs that had moved into the pond were still in it when we had that long icy spell and they all died. I presumed they had left and were hibernating. I got advice from a pond group and I was told that the males sometimes stay in the pond to be the first there when the females arrive. I have also read that when it is icy you can place a ball on the pond and then lift it off to allow air to get through. I am really hoping that new frogs will arrive this summer, it was reallly upsetting to loose them.
