Sealing wax

Hello, any old timers out there?
I remember years ago my Mum use to seal knots with heated wax, a red pencil thing. Can one still buy these as I have just fitted new sisal rope to my hanging bird table but the nature of sisal it does not bind a knot fast so I want to seal to secure.

Take care, though, Ams. I remember burning myself with sealing wax when I played with it (being a naughty child!). Useful stuff, though. Hope you find some!

Super-glue ?
Take care not to glue yourself to anything though, it isn't pleasant separating super-glue and skin.

Thanks folks, I thought this item may have long ceased to be.

My father had a set with a tiny deep spoon, balls of sealing wax and a stamping thingy. You lit a match under the spoon to melt the wax, poured it on to the back of an envelope and then stamped on top with the 'seal' which made an official-looking imprint.
No wonder I played with it and burnt myself!

I thought wax may have better weather proofing properties.
A royal seal, very grand.

It was sooooo long ago, I can't remember what the pattern was on the seal! Certainly not royal, though, or grand. lol.
I was in BIG trouble for playing with matches!

In the US you can buy it in bookstores, so you might ask at your local one and see if they carry it, you might also check out stationary stores or art suppliers.

My grandfather was a chemist's dispenser and at one time, all the medicines were dispensed in little packages sealed with wax.
Every Christmas, he was given all the presents to wrap because, no matter what size and shape it was, he would always finish up with a beautifully wrapped parcel, sealed with wax

I have a red stick of sealing wax and a 'stamping thingy' - to use Spritz's description! - that belonged to my Dad. I must look at the stamp to remind my-self what mark it leaves. Certainly made mail look official.

we still have a seal with initials on that was used to stamp the wax ... it belonged to my husbands mother , it has the same initials as our oldest grandaughter so we will pass it on to her ...........
