Boxing Day at Kew Gardens

It was so mild here yesterday I decided to walk off the Xmas turkey by going to Kew Gardens for the day. Here are some of the plants I enjoyed.
Some camellias were flowering very early. C. sasanqua is a rangy shrub with small flowers but even some of the C. japonica varieties were blooming
For scent, it was hard to beat wintersweet, chimonanthus praecox
Iris unguicularis was also enjoying the warm weather
This callicarpa was putting on a splendid show with its mauve berries in the garden round the Japanese gate
I also liked the white fruit on this euonymus
And snowdrops reminded me it won’t be long till we start the gardening year all over again.
This time last year, we had several inches of snow!

Wow I can't believe how many flowers are blooming. Its amazing how different this winter has been from the last one. It was so cold this time last year with all the snow.
The snowdrops are beautiful. I planted some bulbs earlier this year, (first ever attempt) I'll look forward to seeing them pop up (I hope lol).

Enjoyed your blog and photos Andrew, very mild here too, will it last? so many buds just waiting to open, would be a shame to have severe weather now.

And Oh my word - there's a BEE in the second camellia picture. (well, I suppose it might be a hoverfly) It's nearly January, for Goodness' sake!
