North Wales - Portmeirion

I had a few days away in north Wales earlier this week (boy, does it rain in Wales!). This is the first of five blogs on the places I visited.
We left Bracknell early on Monday morning and reached Portmeirion late in the afternoon. The village was built by the architect Clough Williams-Ellis to show how you could develop a naturally beautiful setting without spoiling it and that with sufficient skill and care, architectural good manners can actually enhance the natural environment. It was also where the 1960’s series “The Prisoner” was filmed.
If you know what to look for, there are some interesting plants as well. This is an olearia (daisy bush), growing all over the village
There were also callistemons (bottlebrushes) and this yellow-flowered magnolia

Looks lovely Andrew.....we had a Caterham sports car (built by my husband Barry) which is the car they opened the programme 'The Prisoner' with. We have always meant to go to Portmeirion for that reason.

I didn't see (or hear) any but as it was a wet afternoon, they may have found a dry spot somewhere and gone to sleep

Shame it rained, and your right when it rains it forgets to stop in Wales, went many years ago when our children were small, for a change it was boiling hot, an amazing place, lovely pace to stay too.
