North Wales - Plas Newydd

On day 2 of my trip to North Wales, we headed across to Anglesey to visit Plas Newydd. Home to the Marquis of Anglesey, the house and grounds are now owned by the National Trust. First we explored the Australasian Arboretum, with groves of eucalyptus and nothofagus (Southern Beech).
This grevillea was very much at home
This looks like a form of New Zealand broom
While this pittosporum was flowering prolifically
Next we made our way to the rhododendron garden at the other end of the grounds. There was a wonderful selection of pieris, putting on a great display
This shrub is an illicium with star-shaped flowers – I wasn’t able to get close to show the flowers in detail
Gunneras grew well in the moist conditions here
Closer to the house were formal gardens
After looking around inside the house, we explored Anglesey further, driving up the west coast. We found a small beachside café selling cream teas but the crazy golf next door was closed. Just before we crossed back over the Menai Bridge, we did the tourist stop at Llanfairpwellgwyngyllgogerychwll-llantysilogogogoch, the station with the longest place name in Britain.
