Growing Old Gracefully

While some flowers are unattractive when they grow old (grey achilleas, or white flowers turning brown), others improve with age. Hydrangeas keep their good looks for many months.
Back in June, hydrangea serrata ‘Preziosa’ carried balls of pink flowers
Now they are crimson
The lacecaps of hydrangea serrata ‘Bluebird’ have changed from blue
To pink
While the pristine whiteness of hydrangea ‘Lanarth’
Has taken on pinks and greens
I would always make room for at least one hydrangea in the garden for this graceful aging.

They are still looking very nice, especially Lanarth.
My blue mophead which has flowered magnificently is unattractive at the moment, though the others are OK. Annabelle is turning delicate green and the lacecaps are still pretty. The erstwhile red mophead which suddenly after about 10 years decided to be deep purple is sort of half and half. Looks as though here at least the lacecaps are a better bet for this time of year.
