Yunnan - Land of the Southern Cloud (4)

The previous day had ended with rain, and the weather did not improve over the next two days
But the plants enjoyed the conditions. This is pedicularis sigmoidea, a semi parasite
And the pink form of primula agleniana
Through the mist, we spotted rhododendron nuttallii
While rhododendron cinnabarinum subsp xandthocodon grew precariously on a bank
To end a miserable day, our next homestay was primitive to say the least (one outdoor loo between fifteen people!)
Next day, the weather was even worse
Our intended route over a mountain pass was closed due to the weather, so we had no choice but to retrace our route back down the Salween Valley. However, a mud slide had blocked this road as well
After waiting for over an hour, the road was cleared enough for us to carry on. We spent most of the day in the vehicles, but had a brief stop to cross the river by footbridge to see a local village. Who is this man? Some locals thought he was a film star, but he was one of our guides
Every spare piece of land is used for growing food
And most people have their own mode of transport (although not everyone can afford a car)
The local ‘big town’ is Gonshan where we had stayed two nights before but we had to keep driving south
To be continued ….
