I blame spritzhenry. Her blog on ‘exciting boxes’ sent me off to look at the Cotswold Garden Flower Nursery website. Wow! Several plants there on my ‘wants’ list. Tricyrtis macranthopsis and kniphofia ‘Sunningdale Yellow’ for my yellow border (AND they’ve got a hardy white-flowered kniphofia, yes please). I need that tall yellow chrysanthemum to extend the season in that border too. Ophiopogon jaburam and a white-flowered melittis – just what I need for a shady border. Trillium rivale, tick. Thladiantha dubia – I thought only Great Dixter sold that. The dietes and grevillea will replace winter causalties. Pasithea, that’s new to me, but a long season of blue flowers is not to be turned down. And what’s this – farfugium japonicum ‘Argenteum’ – I’ve NEVER seen this for sale in the UK and I’ve wanted one ever since I saw it growing in a Uruguayan garden in 2004. Looks like I’ll have another ‘exciting box’ arriving soon.

PS. The title of this blog is from my mother’s expression for something she had done that she really wanted to do but felt guilty about.

I think it's revenge Jacque. She's always blaming me for posting pictures of plants she then has to go and buy :-)

Andrew,I think someone should set up an addiction clinic for us lot on here..how not to open purse or wallet,or "add to shopping basket", or maybe we could have the words "must have " erased, from our minds. Now I am being silly..no one would ever join...would they?I like your mums way of thinking too, very familiar.:o))

Ok Andrew, no more excuses. I agree with Bloomer, you are an addict, along with lots of others on GoY.
Believe me, I'm so pleased for you, being able to get plants already and to be thinking of planting. Here we have more snow forecast for tonight and tomorrow, and this morning the pond was frozen again, and as I told Spritz, my bones are creaking - and its not fair! Boo hoo!

I keep taking the anti - plant buying addiction pills but, sadly, they dont work!!!!
There are a lot more severe addictions Andrew........ so just enjoy!

My name is Andrew and I'm a plantaholic. It even says so in my Yellow Book entry.

Mad - rain and a frozen pond here this morning but thankfully no snow.

Kensington - does that mean you're going to take over next door's courtyard to make room for all your purchases?

I love your mother's expression Andrew and I intend to use it a lot if it means I can buy whatever I want for the garden without feeling at all guilty. Wonderful.

18 Feb, 2010

Looking forward to seeing your new plants Andrew.

My Mum used that expression too! Usually just after I'd been naughty, as if to confirm that I had done something wrong!

What a brilliant idea Andrew- a neighbours garden takeover!
Probably best done by torchlight do you think?

18 Feb, 2010

my mum used it and now i do to. it must be genetic. So many of you inspire me to look for plants. Bob brown is a brilliant plants man. and an entertaining speaker.

Kensington - I was thinking more of a legitimate acquisition along the lines of my 'Bit On The Side' or are you two of the Bristol Guerilla Gardeners? :-)

Andrew, I am now blaming you, when I read all those Latin names,( loved latin at school) Farfugium what a great word, !! we used to grow this in the midlands, fantastic leaves..it makes me want to add another 100 or so plants to the garden.....no chance!! I will just have to enjoy yours instead.....

19 Feb, 2010

my plant wish list is huge because of this site.....lol
but oh such joy when i get one of them...lol

19 Feb, 2010

Well done on giving in to your addiction and never apologise for it. The world would look so much blander if it were not for plantaholics and gardeners

19 Feb, 2010

Humph! He blames me?? Mind you - Andrew's right - I do blame him as well - I've managed to order an Ypsilandra thibetica - and who grows that in his garden?? LOL.

I refuse to add any more to my order - the poor Nursery keeps getting calls for 'just that one more'...but of course, I can add plants to my 'wish list', can't I???

19 Feb, 2010

I `ve already stated elsewhere that my list grows each time I read a blog from Spritz, lol, but really it`s Goy addiction and thats a good vice...........

19 Feb, 2010

I started browsing the nursery site last night and at 1 am hubby turned the computer off and growled 'are you coming to bed or what?' oops. doing his fav tea tonight.

will have to resume browsing , I only got as far as k :o)

She made me do it as well Andrew.lol: Not only to visit on-line but to go to the actual nursery as its about 50mins to 1hr away. I was very good bought Ozothamnus Selago which looks like a pce of coral, but came away with a wish list as long as my arm - its a good job it started snowing which curtailed the actual buying as Hubby was not amused, and wanted to get home he has promised me a further visit in the better weather..

Andrew- Balaclavas are being knitted from dark green wool as we speak (To blend in with the foliage), and the infra red lights are being charged up!
Stand by: 'Operation garden takeover!'

19 Feb, 2010

DD - don't forget my garden is open for visits under the Yellow Book scheme. We are opening on 25th April this year but I also open by appointment so let me know if you'd like a private visit when we can talk plants for hours uninterrupted.

Stroller - you might need a big van for your next visit!

Kensington - does this mean you won't be the smallest garden in the Yellow Book scheme any more? Are you aiming to become the largest? :-)

19 Feb, 2010

Ho hum - I think I should ask for commission from the Nursery! I'd love to pay them a visit - you are lucky, Stroller!

Grenville - count me in! I promise I'll be very quiet and wear one of your balaclavas. ;-)

19 Feb, 2010

Andrew what a treat that would be,where can we put hubby? any big empty pots? lol

19 Feb, 2010

DD - there's a pub at either end of the road! Or if he's a train-spotter, I'm three doors from a railway bridge. There's an Arts Centre a couple of miles away or a Sports Centre nearby. Ascot racecourse, Windsor Castle, Legoland!!

19 Feb, 2010

No the pub would do nicely, as long as he brings me back a pint....

23 Feb, 2010

I shouldn't tell you this but I used to go train spotting many years ago, When I pull my coach into temple meads station I have to have a wander.

If anyone mentions it I just say oh, i'm looking at all the buddlejah growing in unusual places lol!
