Sub-tropical mayhem in Twickenham

The weather is cool and gloomy but the garden is a riot of gorgeous orange cannas, deep red and purple penstemon and yellow dahlias. YAY!
The apples are all falling and I can’t keep up with them – the birds and wasps are feasting. The scent is amazing – sort of kitchen cum cider factory, mixed with the sweetness of the eleagnus which imparts a sort of marshmallow flavour over it all – a sweet shop smell has enveloped the place.
How long can it last ? The cold nights have started – it was a mere 7C on sunday night – and I am beginning to think that the heating should be on in the mornings when I step into a decidedly chilly bathroom – yuk.
I recently signed an online petition to change our daylight hours to BST+1 in winter and BST+2 in summer. My Dad used to fondly remember “double summertime” during the war when daylight saving was essential to conserve power. What a simple way to reduce emmissions and help stop Climate Change. How wonderful to get up in the mornings and not have to scurry about in the dark – so depressing.

Interesting blog. I guess it depends where in your time zone you live, and what latitude. It's difficult to get it right for everyone.

An extra hour of light in the winter evenings would be most welcome.
I remember it was tried out for a year or two in the early 70s. I can't understand why it wasn't continued.
Welcome to GOY by the way.
All the best, Hywel.

I believe it wasn't continued because the farmers in Scotland complained it didn't get light up there until 10am.
As they now have their own parliament, I'd suggest we change south of the border and let them carry on with the present system.

Well said, Andrewr and Hywel.
If the daylight rules were changed,
I wouldn't find autumn so depressing.

I'm with you guys on this one. Sick of going to work in dark and coming home in the dark in winter months it sucks big time and it's not even started as yet this year i'm moaning in antisipation it gets me that much.
If it were changed as apropriate admitably it would help out alot of sad sufferers.
