I’m really pleased this year as to how much my garden has grown in really quite a small space – baring in mind I have three 6 × 3 foot beds, I have had mangetout, beetroot (loads!), garlic (about 20 heads), shallots (about 40), broccolli (about 5 dinners worth), plenty of lettuce, radishes, strawberries and now have harvested my potatoes (grown in a compost bag – about half a carrier bag full).
Failures – yes one quite a big one for me – tomatoes – I’ve had blight this year – maybe because of the potatoes (same family), maybe because of the warm, damp weather I dont know but they are not happy! – the ones in the hanging baskets are doing fine!.

Sounds like you have had a good year apart from the blight problem. I think the weather hasn't helped. Cut your losses with the toms, burn don't compost them.Next year grow in a different place and choose a blight resistant varity. For me it was the cane fruit spoiled by the incessant rain, those underneath leaves went mouldy, but I oicked regularly as soon as ripe, and still had quite a good crop.

Hi, I have a companion planting chart, which states that potatoes and tomatoes do not get on well together, so perhaps they were close together? Her in Scotland, my crops are a full month behind where they were last year. We have just had the first strawberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries. Last year we had harvested the beets, shallots etc by now, but it will be another month yet b4 I can do that. Best crops are the apples, our tree is well-laden. I have had many people here say the same about their apples, so perhaps this is one crop benefiting from the weather we have had.
