I put this little book together a while ago. Since it is almost Valentine’s Day maybe it’s a good way to see what you’re saying to someone when you give them flowers!
I’ll see if I can add a few pages each day.

Just occured to me there would be about 28 pages of pictures. Maybe that would be too many to scroll down?

Very interesting Gillian - didnt realise each one had significance , like the one relating to Clematis especially .

28 pages might be going some so glad I got in early to thank you !

Post it in parts, Gillian! Something to look forward to. :-)

Did you do the lovely drawings? Pen and ink?

LOL, BB!

13 Feb, 2009

Yes, pen and ink sketches.
At least as they are alphabetical you could just scroll down quickly to the letter you want maybe!

Thats a lovely blog Gillian, and how talented you are sketching all of those . I cant wait to see the rest..........

Very interesting Gillian. I think Spritzhenry had a good idea - you could do it in several blogs. It would be a shame not to see the rest.

Now I know why I like Clematis - poor but honest - just like me.

These are lovely, you are so clever. Thank you

what a great blog and so much thought has gone into it

13 Feb, 2009

That is wonderful - have you ever approached a publisher with it?

13 Feb, 2009

Clematis - I bought 3 yesterday - I'm definately poor....and honest!

I must be cypress - does that make me afflicted or an affliction? or coriander - I must have some hidden worth somewhere.

loving your book.

Thanks for all the kind comments! This will be three blogs I've decided, as you see this covers A - Da. I used to get it printed off and sew each booklet with ribbon to hold together, sell them at fundraisers etc.

Wagger, I would never bother with that after seeing all the hassle it was when my father-in-law's book was published!

Gillian your booklet is absolutely wonderful. You are obviously very talented. I have a little book called "The Language and Poetry of Flowers" It was published in 1884 and is inscribed inside it's front cover as being given to my late grandfather in 1893. There is a lot of really good poetry and at the end of the book is a list of approximately 1270 plants and flowers and their meanings.
Good luck with your fundraising, you should have no trouble getting people to put their hands in their pockets for this lovely little booklet.

Thank you Toto, I love messing around on things like this in my spare time, find it relaxing.
Your book sounds fascinating! I collected most of my meanings from random Victorian books I have around, but yours has so many listed.

This is lovely.
My budgie is called Crocus, so I'm more than delighted to discover that his name means "ever glad".
Suits him very well. He is always a happy budgie :o)

I wonder if you will have T for Truffle ( My new puppy ).
I think his name might mean "ever mischievous" :o)

14 Feb, 2009

Don't think I have any truffles! But you have a new puppy? That's exciting!

14 Feb, 2009

Yes, he's just been 'delivered' on my photos :o)
Enjoying these flower book blogs of yours.

Gilli. I have looked in my little book and it says that cactus means warmth.

Well, how about that ! My previous Sheltie I owned some years back was called "Cactus" ! Thanks, Toto. It's really special to know it means warmth. :o)
