I'm waiting...

Yes, I’m waiting…seems like there isn’t a blessed thing in this world that doesn’t require some patience…but I’m waiting for the delivery of my first REAL greenhouse!! Yay!!! Ergo…I’m waiting for the snow to go away so I can find the perfect spot and build it. (It comes in a kit.) It is aluminum and polycarbonate (no glass) so it will be light. Will have to anchor it down really well. The winds really swirl in this little bowl valley.
The price was really good..and the shipping prepaid…thought I’d have it by now as I ordered it a week ago last Friday…but…the shipper sent it UPS, (which in our part of the province is Purolator) and they don’t have an agent in Griffith or even in Renfrew! My greenhouse went all the way to Petawawa…and they called asking for permission to deliver it to the closest agent…which is 30 kms away!
What do you think I said?
long story short…I called the company, they wrangled with Purolator…finally they shipped me a greenhouse from stock via a different carrier who is supposed to deliver it to my door…hopefully tomorrow! The saleslady said she has had less trouble shipping a greenhouse to the Yukon! I’ve only lived here three months and I’m beginning to wonder why it is that we have so few of the services that the rest of southern Ontario takes for granted!
Anyway!…when I have it built I’ll be able to laugh about the process…I hope! Just hope the carrier makes it into our neighbourhood…as we got a foot of snow last night!
It is heavy wet spring snow and I can’t shovel that! Wish I had bought that snowblower!

My goodness Lori, poor you, still having all that snow. You must be really fed up with it now. Hope your greenhouse arrives safely tomorrow, that will give you something to keep your mind occupied won't it. Good luck.

Wish I could ship you some nice sunshine from the UK, Lori...a foot of snow sounds not very nice!

You've got a fair-sized greenhouse there, Lori...good luck with construction once you have the weather to begin.

Good luck with your greenhouse - it will certainly extend your growing time won't it ?

The weather where you are must think you are still in the depths of winter - we seem to be just about getting out of ours and have had a few nice sunny days here lately. As Jacquie (W/Lass) says we wish we could send you some nice sunshine.

Let's hope the delivery man arrives soon - it's like waiting for Father Christmas, isn't it ?

great Lori and bet you cant wait to get in there doing your bit lol, sorry about the mess up so frustrating for you and anyone living where you are, wonder why its different there, is it because its hard to get to in winter and costs them to get out there.
i think its cold here and fed up but when i see you have more snow im grateful its not here, keep us posted on the greenhouse and look forward to seeing it stocked up :o))

Hi Lori~ glad that you have finally moved and can have a greenhouse~last year I got a second small one so my advice would have been to get the biggest you can find room for~ but it looks as though you did that!
Hope your heating costs are bearable~ it makes all the difference!
regards
Arlene

Hello Arlene...nice to see you again...yes I bought the biggest I could afford as I have plenty of room. we have close to 8 acres, mostly woods. (planning to make maple syrup if the weather ever decides to cooperate.) I plan to make a passive solar collector for the gh to sit on. Black plastic pipes from an exterior collector take sun heated water to pipe buried under the crushed rock floor, circulated by gravity. (at least that's the plan at present)...lol.
San, I probably won't get much out of it this year...but it's going to be such fun getting it all up and running and I plan to put my orchids out there. (then there'll be room for us in the house!)
Jacquie, Marie, Mavis, Sandra (Wales), and Karen...thanks all! Nice to have friends who get as excited as I am about it... What a year this has been so far. (on the downside: we got a foot of snow over the week end) :...(

the orchids will brighten it up nicely Lori and then you can plan what your going to grow in there, put a chair in there and get yourself a nice cup of tea and dream :o)

did it ever turn up Lori?

Thanks for the good wishes Sandra and Cristina...Hi Sandra(Wales), guess I should have followed up on this...yes it did arrive after ten days. I think it saw most of southern Ontario and was delivered in a minivan with Quebec plates on it!!! makes no sense whatever...It finally got warm enough to go out to the shed and unpack the bits and pieces and check them against the manifest...I found three pieces of aluminium that have damage...the polycarbonate is very tough but found a few pieces which have abrasions! The tough carboard boxes looked chewed!! I can't imagine what hassle I'll have when I contact them about the damaged pieces...the timber for the foundation will be delivered tomorrow or Thursday, so I have to make a final decision on where I'm placing it. Then I just have to put the .....thing together... hmmmm....trying not to be a pessimist!
