Upon my return from holiday I find these footsteps in my lawn? Have not used any pesticide recently and am really miffed?

A burglar gardener? Have you asked the neighbours if they have had anyone to spray their drive? He could have plodded round to see if you wanted any done - and ruined your grass in the meantime.

The mystery continues... I assume it will regrow?

From the looks of it your intruder has splay feet and therefore is most likely overweight. People who have this condition walk with their toes pointed outward and leave a duck like footprint the image of which I see in your grass. Also I have heard that rubber flip flops can cause this kind of print in grass. Geeeez...I feel like Sherlock Holmes.

I can just imagine you now keeping a sharp look out for a fat guy with Charlie Chaplin feet in flip flops - sounds fairly unmissable!

Ha, ha! I have been asking around neighbours if they have seen anyone 'out of ordinary' but so far no luck.....

Mystery solved! (I think?) I remembered I was cleaning out the cat litter tray for my two kittens when whilst tipping out old stuff and the kittens being temporarily without a toilet one of them decided she needed to go then and there on the tiled floor. ( Grr...) I must have stepped in it with my garden clogs and then treaded it into the lawn although the path of the footsteps is not by the back door entrance so still not sure. Would soles of shoes drenched in cat pee then trodded in to lawn created these footsteps?? Clarification gratefully received as it is driving me potty (excuse the pun)

I wouldn't have thought that the amount you would be transferring would cause that sort of damage. You would have to be sloshing about with soaked sponges on your feet - doesn't bear thinking about really!

Maybe you could do an experiment. ....
was it a really hot day so the scorch was more powerful......hard to imagine kittens having that capacity?

True... How potent is cat wee? Don't really want to know!

If that's what it is your kittens must have impressively huge bladders...

Ok,ok. It's not the kittens then! It was just a thought. I am worried we were visited when we were away and looking out of kitchen window every morning reminds me we must have had an intruder- not a nice thought!

I see the house, what is behind you in the photo? You intruder seems to have walked out to the middle of the yard, circled around and exited either to the left or right from that circled area. Also check your window and door frames for scratches, nicks and pry marks. These things will happen and most likely it is someone in the neighborhood such as a home that has a member of the family who has a druggie in it, sad to say.

Behind me is the back of the garden where the footsteps mysteriously dissapear ....

How strange and, a bit of a worry.

Have since reported it to local community police.

Yes. I think that's wise although nothing much they can do other than make others aware there could be potential intruders around the area!
