Lots of busy insects

As I’m sat by the back door next to my perennial border I’m amazed by the amount of insects buzzing about! Lots of hoverflies, the odd butterfly, bumblebees and honey bees. I’ve noticed lots of white bottomed bumblebees zooming in & out of a sheltered spot by my oil tank. Hopefully it’s a nest. I’m struggling to capture some of them but they’re too fast!

Yes I hadn’t seen many either and therefore was so surprised at this burst of life!

It is so pleasing to see some insects flying around ... the lack of Butterflies here is worrying but I have seen more Bees than usual this week so that's a positive.

Just to mention that bee colonies have suffered great losses due to infestation with bee mites. The University of Ohio has managed to breed a bees with smaller mandibles which allow them to effectively groom and kill the mites off themselves. Since introducing this new type of bee to existing hives so this new trait can be inbred there has been a stunning increase in bee populations. The name of this altered bee is called the “Ohio mite biter”. These goings on have been across the pond.
