Top of the morning to one and all, my first blog

Hello,
a new face here, I am a single handed full time gardener from a large(ish) garden in Surrey.
The garden in total covers some thirty acres but much is paddock for horses and other grass munching animals!
The garden is largely informal, but does contain many unusual trees and shrubs and a collection of many Japanese Acers. I will stick up some photos in due course for your enjoyment..or disgust!
I been in involved in horticulture and arboriculture for over twenty five years and am happy to share my knowledge and love for all things natural and arising from mother earth.
I have always adopted ways of working with nature and do my best to be as organic and sensitive to plants and nature as possible.

Welcome to GOY Andy. I look forward to photos and blogs of your 'garden', or is it a park?

It is a very large garden which ends with a beautifully constructed ha-ha, so that the garden seamlesly blends with the paddocks to give the illusion of the horses being in the garden! the paddocks were planted up, i would guess about ten years ago with many select trees so eventually it will have a more parkland feel.
the maintained garden is approx 9 acres, with an orchard, kitchen garden, courtyard with pond and formal rose garden.....

Hi Andy...
Welcome to GoY :o)))
Looking forward to seeing your photos.
What type of soil do you have in your garden ?
Sounds like you have a good variety of plantings ...

Hello Andy and welcome to, grows on you, the garden you work in sounds really nice, i am a gardener myself and get to do many gardens, i work for a chap with a similar garden to the one you work in, its not the typical bog standard garden with the usual plants, over many years he has planted many unusual trees and shrubs, with vast sweeping lawns and huge borders, through the year i give him a couple of hours a week and then he and his wife do all the general pottering, its such a joy to work there, look forward to seeing the pcitures.

the soil is on the most part a very free draining sandy loam, although in certain parts there is a seam of blue clay not that far below the surface and its just the acid side of neutral, its perfect for all the acid lovers my employer adores!

that sounds a lovely garden ~ i would love to see the acer pictures ~ beautiful trees and shrubs, my soil is slightly acidic luckily, i have a couple of small acers which i love. just hope the horses dont escape and eat those lovely plants.

Hi Andy and welcome to GoY. I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures and picking your brain. I've just got a couple of fuit trees and another acer so your tree expertise may be required! My garden isn't as big as yours so your horsey knowledge is an area I probably won't need (not many horses roaming our close. lol)

Hi Andy welcome from me too, look forward to your pictures, especially the acers, love them but something I can't grow here, far too exposed, have tried but after murdering two gave up.

Sounds like an interesting garden to work in Andy. Julien, I'm not sure that I know what a 'typical bog standard garden' is.

Yes, welcome to Goy, it's a great fun site. i live in Gloucestershire on a studfarm! Plenty of paddocks and nags here!! I have a large garden which I planted up from nothing! It doesn't belong to me sadly but we do so enjoy living here.
Just love haha's so effective.
