Late summer garden.

I haven’t posted much from the garden this year as I rather lost interest what with back problems and the vagaries of the weather to contend with. It still seems rather a mess, despite recent efforts, but here it is, warts and all. We seem to be experiencing the summer and autumn flowering all in one go! The rest of the year, with the drought, flowers have been noticeable by their absence.

After much deliberation we lifted the canopy on the birch, and we think it looks much better:

Here are a couple of pics of borders. I could hope they were tidier, but they are colourful:

Some favourite plants which are good at the moment:
persicaria:

Clematis ‘Anabelle’. I thought this had died, but it has experienced a resurrection!

Daisies are doing well this year:

Finally, a rearranged area. We took out a winter flowering honeysuckle and replaced with hydrangea paniculata ‘Vanille Fraise’. The honeysuckle took up too much space and wasn’t really that much value for insects.

well I think it looks amazing Ange. Plenty of colour and food stations for the insects. Rudbeckia are doing well for me too.

Thank you all for your kind words. We do have a lot of butterflies at the moment, Sbg, and I've noticed this year the persicarias are a real fave with the bees. We've increased the number of eryngiums which they favour, too.

Lovely colourful garden, Ange.

Your garden is pretty. It doesn't need to be too tidy, a tidy garden looks unnatural.

Thanks, Ff.

Plants have pretty much been left to do their 'own thing' this season, Hywel! I shall tell myself it isn't weedy but natural from now on! Thank you.
