Hectic week!

We have had a hectic last week with our daughter getting married, having the grandkids with us & waiting on a phone call from my sister-in-law saying her mum was in hospital – at least! Expecting to catch a plane at a moment’s notice to rush over to Spain. We hardly expected her to live through the weekend – but she’s still hanging on!
So what with one thing & another I’ve not been able to get on GoY for the past week or so! We still live waiting for the dreaded phone call that must come soon telling us to get on a plane ASAP! My wife is beside herself waiting day & night, for months now, for that phone call to come through.
She phones twice a day at least to see if there is any change in her mother’s condition. Last Friday night at 11pm her sister phoned to say her mother had vomited up a brown liquid & that she looked very bad. My wife urged her to call a doctor but she didn’t. The next day she seemed much better & was eating & drinking again, something she hadn’t done during the day on Friday.
So we live slaves of the phone day & night, week in, week out but still she continues to defy all odds of her succumbing!
I’m unlikely to get back to more regular postings until this situation draws to a close.

So sorry to hear this dreadful time for you all, kind regards Denise. sorry I pressed like by mistake.
Can I just say that vomiting brown liquid may be 'coffee ground vomit' meaning it contains blood which is altered by the acid stomach contents this bleeding may need urgent medical attention as to how to proceed as it can often be treated.

Your mother in law is a tough cookie Balcony - she must be strong to survive all she's gone through. Please pass on good wishes to your wife she must be shattered by now.

I feel for you Balcony....it seems a strange thing to say but, it just torments people when it drags on like this.Sadly, we all know the eventual outcome.
It was bad enough for us with my mum in hospital for what seemed forever (before the inevitable conclusion on New Year's Day) and that was actually only five weeks.
Sorry to hear of the tor,net it's causing you and your wife.

Thank you all for your concern.
Last night, just before 11pm our phone rang - you can imagine what we thought! But no, it wasn't the bad news we are expecting, no, our daughter rang us by mistake, but she apologised knowing how on edge we are.
My wife spoke to her sister regarding their mother this evening & it seems she is much better again today!
Denise: The brown liquid I mentioned is the same as I've experienced on the odd occasion when I've had stomach problems & have been unable to eat or drink for a day, it's just fluid from the stomach, the digestive juices, etc., nothing serious.
Diane:My mother-in-law is well looked after by her daughter who has been her permanent carer for the last 3 years. If she'd have thought the vomit was something serious she would have got a doctor to see her without waiting to tell her sister here in the UK first! As it was she did see the doctor about her mother on Monday morning & the doctor didn't think it was serious either.Nevertheless, thank you for your concern.
Jen your kindness is touching, thank you.
Stera, it would seem you are right, she is a tough cookie indeed! It's almost a year now since she went into hospital for 3 days & they put her on oxygen when she returned home.
Thank you Paul for your words of understanding, too. you are quite right when you say it's a torment for all concerned.
Thank you, Hywel for your prayers, they are much appreciated.

Oh Balcony my heart goes out to you, your wife and family, we had that same stress for many years but at least my parents were only 5 mins up the road, I lived in dread waiting for those phone calls towards the end, sometimes you just want it all to end, for their sake as well as your own, you take care and we'll catch up when you are able....
