Roses in January!
A week ago I first saw this rose flowering but I didn’t take a photo then. As I passed by the same house again today I thought I would take this photo of it as in another week’s time the flowers will all have finished.
Never, ever have I seen a rose in flower in January before – at least outside of the miniature roses you find in many supermarkets! Other than an occasional chopping back, this rose never recieces any care & I’ve seen it flower amongst the first in town for many years.

I'm wondering if it's Golden Showers Balc....mine is empty of flowers now, but there was still a couple out at Christmas... Such a treat for now..

Flowers are behaving strangely these days. We had a red rose in bloom and lots of Alpine strawberries at Christmas.

WOW! Iceberg, still flowering? That must be a sight to see!
I have no idea what variety it might be, Janey, but you might be right! most years it's one of the earliest roses to flower here, at least in this little neck of the woods (town!) I normally see!
Eirlys, I quite agree but this year the spring flowers seem to be sprouting & flowering at more or less their usual times.

Its lovely, my Iceberg hasn't stopped either and I have been having flowers on most of my roses all winter, I didn't give them the November prune, I hate chopping at shrubs and plants whilst they are still producing blooms for me, only today I noticed two buds on one of my red climbers and one on my Golden Wedding, its surrounded by the spreading Poached Egg and that's flowered all through the winter, usually it disappears underground until late spring, weird , wonderful but very confusing, the temptation is to start sowing in the g'house but I am resisting...

Nice to see it in January. I wonder of the wall gives it the shelter and temperature it needs.

As climbing roses are often amongst the very first roses to flower I imagine walls would be help.
I don't pass this house as often as I used to but it has nearly always been the first one in flower - at least in the areas of town I most often frequent. I passed the house on other occasions this winter but I don't remember seeing flowers before 2 or 3 weeks before taking this photo.

it is a lovely sight isn't it.
My climbing iceberg is still flowering. It hasn't stopped since June.
