East Devon Park

Have spent a few days staying in the coastal town of Sidmouth a place I have visited many times in my life
And more often than not spend a couple of hours in Connaught Gardens it has won many awards over the years for its displays of flowers and the views over the surrounding coastline are stunning, if you don’t like flowers it’s worth a visit to the tea room situated on the edge of the cliff within the park ,they also cater for children of all ages who like to play games .
We arrived in a sea mist but it cleared after a while.
This is what greeted us.
Soon the mist lifted
A wildflower theme was prominent
I remember when notices here said keep off the grass ,how times change
Lovely sunken walled area, how I would love that to grow the sun and warmth lovers
Not a cactus lover so consider this a wasted space !
There are a number of beds laid out by schoolchildren from different schools in the area, Think it is competitive with a prize later in the year
This is just a couple of many oversize pastries to be purchased with your tea and coffee
I know a few Goyers are familiar with the park If you are not and in the area it is well worth a visit its not massive but a lot to see
They do Bacon Butties as well !

We were taken round in January by BikerBob and Sue a couple of years ago - it was great to see it in its summer glory. And we did have lunch in the excellent little cafe. Thank you!

Just took a walk into The Dairy Shop on the corner of beautifully quaint Church St. and Chapel St. after taking a stroll on the beach in front of the Belmont Hotel. With all the delicacies inside I did wish to sit at one of their tables with a cup of cream tea and a pastry, or a bowl of haddock chowder served with a brown roll but their six tables were all taken. I waited a little while reading a Gardeners World magazine that they had on a rack but I had to move on. I settled for a bag of Burt's British potatoe chips to munch on the way back across the pond to the USA. Oh, I also had my eye on a jar of onion and pineapple Devon Chutney. What a lovely place this part of the UK is.

Loosestrife
That must have been a very short visit, you were so close to the park just a few minutes walk up the hill from the Belmont. Sorry I missed you

Loosetrife, your cup of cream tea made me smile! Its the little meal that's called a cream tea - the cream goes on the scones and jam, not in the tea cup! What a pity you didn't have time to sample it.

I saw a picture the picture of it in the shop, yes it didn't look anything like a teacup but it looked yummy in any case.

What a fantastic amount of wild flowers they have there, all flowering away! Massed flowers have a magnetic effect on the sight - your eye is drawn to them & can't seem to get away!
My wife & I were in Cambridge yesterday for the day & near the bus station there is a park, 'Jesus Pieces' I think it is called. I've never been in the park before so on leaving the shopping centre 'The Gafton' we crossed it (the path led us back to the bus station). I took some photos of the beds of massed flowers they had there but when I looked at them on the computer I found they were all rather blurred. Not being able to make out many of the flowers I deleted them. :-((

balcony, methinks you'd been partaking of a small bevvy in one of those lovely Cambridge hostelries! ;)
Lovely blog Brian. The difference before and after the mist is amazing isn't it. We get that here all the time as well. I loved the wildflowers and although I'm not a fan of carpet bedding...those geraniums look great en masse!

I am lucky enough to live in Sidmouth, and there is something of interest all the year, that view over Jacobs Ladder beach is lovely in all weathers , wouldn't live anywhere else.
