The name is a trial by any ones standards and it’s size would not suit everyone’s garden.
At this time of the year it throws up new canes at an alarming rate and with the weather we have this year 3ft high plus in seven days from breaking through the turf is the rate it is growing, the new canes have a green stripe on every other section but this fades in the second year it also throws up the odd rogue cane that is deep green one can just be seen in the first picture.
first pic is just looking into the canes
Next you can see the new shoot heading upwards
I decided it necessary to remove one that would be in the way of the mower and asked jamie to hold it for a size comparison, but he had other idea’s
No need for a shredder in the garden as long as I have Jamie
A lot of the canes have grown to around 25 ft and that attained in about a month.

I saw a very similar Bamboo yesterday evening. I walked Paddy somewhere different to usual and there was a huge Bamboo right outside and touching someone's front window. If ever a plant was in the wrong place this was!It was huge!!

We are growing this , as you know Brian, also the Vivax, we will have to put a barrier around the one because it keeps escaping in to the neighbours drive, forever cutting it out...I notice from your photograph that you have tied some of them back, ours are growing out instead of up too!
The black bamboo after years in the garden has decided to venture further than we want it to, so that will have to come out, and be re-sited, which is not going to be easy because it is in our grasses border!!

Dotty
during the winter several canes were blown right over flat and had to be cut off ,is yours pushing up new canes now.
Is Vivax the one that is even larger

Oh I see that is why they are tied up, you must have had some very high winds?
Our canes are coming out thick and fast, and yes the Vivax is the larger one, really beautiful, and loving the rain!!

Not for my garden, I have a miniature which is very well behaved. Years ago, in France visited a 'jungle' in France at St Jean Du Gare, called The Bambouseraie, there the bamboo must have been 30m tall, or more.

Stunning bamboo. I saw one of these yesterday at some Open gardens. It was just the one cane starting to grow - in a very small back garden amongst other plants - I wonder if they know how big it grows?

Honeysuckle
Might get a shock I measured one just now that was cut off when it fell over in the winter just short of 26 feet in length.
