My moan for the year, last year it was fluffy tailed rats Which a lot members seemed to think were lovely but given the chance still cause havoc in my garden, thanks to a neighbour who insists on throwing peanuts seed and bread every where and at times bringing rats into the garden,
Now for todays moan I have shown before the established patch of Anemone Rananculoides in the garden about 8-10 years there yesterday fine

This morning i could have cried the wire cage I keep over it to stop Jamie treading on them was tossed a yard away and the whole area devestated by Badgers the photo i took before I started clearing up.

The tubers of course are badly broken and ony a few will recover ,i do have a few more i had transplanted but nothing as establised as those were.
to finish the same s——- women puts a tin of dog food out every night to feed the badgers
tomorrow I may feel better

bjs I really feel sorry for you, what a mess, would have broken my heart if I got up to face that, think the blame definately lies with your neighbour, have you had a word with her or even got her round to let her see the damage, I would if I was you.

Sorry to hear about the devastation. I hope some of your plants will recover. You must be feeling infuriated.

what a mess -- so sorry-- I had a lot of rabbit trouble last year, its soul destroying,i did read that camphor mothballs deter squirrels, not tried it but if the rabbits try to take over again i'll give it a go !

sorry to hear about your plants i agree with Yorkshire and would ask her to come and look at the mess..i could not put up with rats in the garden, we have had that trouble not long ago and it stopped me going in my own garden but that was down to a balti house at the end of our garden ...

It is almost like losing a child or very old friend is it not? I do hope you feel better.

I have had the environmental people speak to her she stops for about a week then starts again, she knows what she is doing is wrong but is very stubborn.
Hollyeves I like wild life but the way they are breeding here would be unsustainable in the wild, she also attracts a lot Pigeons and we all know what a mess they make.
As for the badgers I would not harm them but a whole family moving through my garden each night ( and they wake me up fighting)is a bit much.
Never mind have had my moan ,tomorrows another day

I cant help thinking that stopping feeding the badgers would probably not help as they would just be more hungry. - oh dear this is a difficult one isnt it but agh please dont put camphor on your garden - its horrid for wild life and not licensed for use as a poison - besides which it is illegal to poison badgers :(. There has been talk of phasing it out altogether.

Sarah
i would not poison them but makes me wonder, the wire over the Anemones would not have been moved by Jamie such is the weight. There are areas i had dug where worms and slugs would be in quantity which they have not touched,
The Squirrels are still the no1 vermin with me the lengths i have to go to to protect plants you would have to see to believe it

I'm not advocating poisoning the--heaven forbid! -- I understood it was the smell that dererred them

What a shame for your lovely plants I am very aware of what my neighbours are like.Being a cat owner and some one who feeds the birds I make sure that what is not eaten is cleared away as soon as possible. One of my problems this year has been with my next door neighbour he cleared his garden finaly but that just made it a cats paradise all that lovely soil! I do like all wildlife but would not like them rampaging through my plants.

Badgers usually follow the same track so if you know where they are coming in could you do what Spritzhenry did and block their entrance (and a few metres each side) with an electric fence. It seems to have worked for her.

I could try but its not very straight forward they can get in on 3 sides of the garden and it would take a lot of fencing and Jamie jumping in the air every five miniutes he does not have the brains to stop when chasing a squirrels.
