The way things were ..and in some places still are ..

As you travel deeper into and across North York Moor remote little communities remain largely untouched by the passage of time.

The old Mill Inn Harwood Dale nr Whitby.Claims to be fully licensed but hope you not in a rush… further on towards Langdale you might fancy a jug of ale from the cask at the Moorcock Inn .

Dear Ada long gone but her memorial remains ..wonder what she did with my savings ?

Queueing up on Thursday evenings to spend a penny then save one ..

Recall Kia – Ora and other colas but Kaola ?

Perhaps just time to call in at the Wesleyan Chapel next door for a sermon on the evils of drink ..

I know what you re thinking complete time warp ..look at the car park the other side of the pub aye lad that ll teach em ..never forget that famous lock in we had oh must be nigh on 40 year since .

Nothing better than a nice stroll shall we cut through here ..?

Perhaps not ..we ll charge for anything up here even bulls…

Hope you enjoyed a stroll back in time ..this way back to 21st Century.

the moorcocks gents loo was the hedge to the left of the house. the ladies was a bucket in the outside loo at the bottom of the garden. I remember it well. all the beer was bottled and the snug was ada's living room. she had loads of stuffed birds in her lounge too.

the railway still runs spritz. my brother works in the engine sheds at the other end of the line [cant remember the name of the place] was at pickering only yesterday. :o)

Simple days and simple pleasures why did life have to get so darned complicated?

28 Sep, 2009

the car before the bull charging photo is a P4 Rover. Cant tell which one as i cant see the number on the crest below the viking head on the top of the grill. we have a P4 80 so i recognise it. [photo of it with my eldest in her prom dress back in may along with the lilac]

29 Sep, 2009

Just re-read this, & realised we passed your house too when on holiday in Scarborough last year! Mind you, you wouldnt have liked the invasion, there were 22 of us!!

29 Sep, 2009

now i have to google for "posh for windows" ... lol!!!!

... had to google for posh for chapel windows....

the first try ended up badly...

translation.... stained glass

vitraux= stained glass

29 Sep, 2009

Only two bedrooms and two reception rooms and ceilings not much higher than 6 feet so guess would have been a little cramped Mp ..we do have a spare tin bath though ..

Sorry Aleyna Posh = fancy, grand , up market ..not heard the term vitraux so thought you referring to windows ..ah stained glass yes posh windows indeed !

29 Sep, 2009

LOl! Can I have the tin bath please?? Lol! I HATE my shower & was threatening to put in a tin bath if the council dont get me a bath! I've waited 2 years next week!! ;~D

29 Sep, 2009

Oh Mp 2 years without a bath .. good grief thought Toto was bad with his annual ones I did promise Toto the use of it so if you dont mind sharing ..

1 Oct, 2009

LOL!! At least I have a shower, but I MUCH prefer a bath! As for sharing.........nah, I like to stretch out & wallow!! LOL!

1 Oct, 2009

Mm well tin baths not designed for stretching out and wallowing unless you very small ..might have been suitable for your last avatar but not so sure with the latest one ..

1 Oct, 2009

1 Oct, 2009

Always fancied Yorkshire for a break. Might have to speak to Alibongo to see if she fancies it!

Looks so nice:0)-

2 Oct, 2009

Nearly moved to Yorkshire some years ago, but Hubby's job decided not to relocate him.

Love it when I stumble across places here in Wales that have not caught up with the 21st century.

Is there something about getting older, that we hanker after the "way things used to be"?

5 Oct, 2009

Think so Pg always nice to find areas that resist the need to change as often those that live in them still hold on to values many of us treasure.

5 Oct, 2009

~it's probably because they used to be better! ~less crime, more community spirit and neighbourliness, less materialism....no global warming or extinction of species...

5 Oct, 2009

BB and Arlene ~ I think you have both hit the nail on the head.
