IN PRAISE OF AUSTIN ROSE LADY EMMA HAMILTON

I adore this rose, it has a wonderful, strong perfume. She’s a little floppier this year (planted last year), but David Austin says it sometimes takes a few years for his roses stems to strengthen. I don’t care, I drool looking at her pics even, hope you do too:o)

Look at how many faces she has:o)

This is her last year not long after planting. She’s in the two beds nearest house, Queen of Sweden in the two front.

This is her now, a little swamped by her companions. I’ve must get those dying pansies out in front, I do have some dianthus to put in, but very hot here so may wait for rain:o)

Thanks Hywel, I had to put gravel under the lavender as last year rain was sitting for some time on the surface here! I've always concentrated on the back garden and thought it was time for a front garden makeover, like you:-))

Thank you Motinot, I just noticed on the third pic from bottom a little Rosie dog sneaking out of the porch:-))

isn't she a gorgeous shape? I like the apricot colour as she opens. I don't tend to like the ones that change colour but this one is lovely.

Thanks Seaburn, it's so hard to describe her colour, but she is rather vivid at times, changes with the weather too. Her new growth is an added bonus as it's quite dark bronzy which looks fabulous with her colouring:-))

I have it! I love her bronze leaves!

A beautiful rose. We put in three when we first moved here, though sadly one died for no apparent reason... but the two remaining have performed wonders.
Yes, it does flop a bit but it can be forgiven that because of its lovely flowers and wonderful scent.

Excellent pictures.

Doesn't she smell lovely too Liasciubba, in David Austins dellin garea, the Lady Emmas were grouped together and from far away you could see the bronze haze dotted with her lovely globes:-)

Thanks Fractal, do you use any props for it? I grow geranium Orion with her and unfortunately many of her lower flowers are obscured by it (good geranium by the way) I suppose I'll have to move them away from her somewhat, the problem is the beds look bare early on until Orion spreads:-)

yes it's great scent ! I've been last year I'm birmingham and k regret I couldn't go to visit Austin because of family not interested and because even if close it was complicated to go by train , so we went to visit Shakespeare.s town . we made a compromise visiting Anne Hataway house and garden .
next tim e I'll go with gardener friend just for garenen tour's !
