What The ****

It’s leaves were slender rough and long
it grew so fast, its stems were strong
What alien species had I bought ?
I must have planted it I thought.
When SBG my question saw
She made a guess, but wasn’t sure
patient is what you must be
when petals form, then you will see.
excitement grew each passing day
It won’t be long, it can’t delay.
Oh no! it’s not a plant I’ll keep
It’s destined for the compost heap!
A thing of beauty it is not
I know not how it’s in the pot
No real petal has it got
Poor echinacea lost the plot :-(

I have a love-hate relationship with echinaceas grown from seed. I nurtured some for the best part of 18 months, planted them out last Spring. They looked fabulous last year year and I am left with just 3 this year. More trouble than they were worth, although brilliant colours, I thought.
Good to see you back.

Hi SBG, the longest stem hung its head in shame yesterday and died. It was well over 3 feet tall and couldn't stand the strain. I won't keep it in case it has some sort of mite or infection of some sort. I'm sure there was a sort of cone flower being sold years ago which had a few green petals, think green wizard, another not worth growing :-)

Thanks Anget, I'm settled in to my new home now, but in limbo at the moment as my poor builder is in hospital and I don't know if he'll be fit enough to work this year. They are like gold dust. I have just bought a Ninja air fryer and I have a two ring electric thing too. Don't want to buy a cooker 'til my kitchen is done and the people I bought the house from took their cooker with them. I have a massive pussy willow at the end of the garden which has to go too. It will all sort itself out one day:-)

I wasn't sure if you had found somewhere new, BA. I shall look forward to seeing your new garden. The house will all 'come-right' in the end. House moves tend to teach us patience, as I have learned over the years! Good luck in your New Home.

Didn't realise you'd decided to move for definite Ba. Good for you and though it does sound like lots of hard work, I'm sure you'll love it when it's done.
That is a weird Echinacea, I wonder what happened there? It reminds me of a clem I have, many blooms are perfect and just as many have purple/green petals, far more petals than the usual bloom. It's as if the petals can't decide if they're leaves or not.
A friend had some foxgloves this year with strange thin leaves and half the bell flowers haven't developed properly.
I have one Echinacea out of a full seed packet.
So far it's looking ok, I'll have to check the blooms as they develop.
Good to see you Ba..

Hello Ba, I wondered if you did move house and didn't like to ask! What a shame about your builder being in hospital, how very inconsiderate of him when you need a kitchen refurb.! :o))

Hello Ba..I 'm glad you have settled in well,in your new home, and I hope you haven't to wait too long to get it all as you want it. I've never had any success at all with Echinacea's.so you are not alone. Lovely to see you on Goy again ,I've missed you :o) Although .to be fair,I haven't been on as much this past year either ! x

Best wishes for you in your new home and garden from me too! Iβm with Klahanie, love your poetry. βΊοΈ
Iβve an echinacea in a pot..I had one planted in the ground last year and it was quickly destroyed by something!
I have noticed 2 buds on this one, so, fingers crossed.
Very odd result with this one of yours..

Poor Echinacea's dead and gone-
It surely was a funny one.
It sadly succumbed to your anxiety-
It might have been a new variety...

Hi BA, that made me smile, good to see you back I often think how you are when I pop on here, look forward to seeing your new garden, I've just done a blog sharing a memory :-))

Thanks Janey, I must admit it took me a while to add photos to this blog, kept putting them in the wrong place and duplicating. Must try harder:-)

I agree Shirley, very inconsiderate as were the sellers who took their cooker, not able to make a plum cake now and no, I haven't forgotten the plum cake in fact, you will be forever known as Shirley plum cake to me:-)))

Funny isn't it Sandra, you would think GOY would have been used more than usual as we were all prisoners, but no, didn't happen. I went on facebook to look at my infants/junior school and joined the group. A friend whom I last saw when I was 13 messaged me and we've almost picked up where we left off! She still lives in the North. I've also been on face book a bit too. I'm so popular that people in Countries a long way away want to be my friend!
I'm waiting for them to offer me a lot of money which they will put in my bank account :-))

Thank you Klahanie, very kind:-)

Thanks Kate, I'm crossing my fingers for you too:-)

Hi Yorkslass,
If it's a new variety
It certainly isn't one for me
I like my flowers nice and pretty
But I enjoyed your little ditty :-)

Hi Jane, thank you, I will put my new garden on here, but don't get too excited. It may be okay next year, but we'll see. Going to look at your blog now:-)
7 Jul, 2021
Janey, I did a double take when I saw Yorkslass's post. Made me think of our lovely Yorkshire's posts. :-)

Ba, the Plum tree in the garden behind ours is no more! The Plum cake recipe all began when I realised I could shake the overhanging branches and gather quite a crop pf Plums. Mind you I probably should have, by law, thrown them back to her!
7 Jul, 2021
Lol Shirley, I don't think she would have thanked you for compliance with the law:-)

At least it is/was an echinacea.
I'd be tempted to keep it and see if it reverts to a better type next year. There is a really spindly one that has been on the market for the last couple of years and the petals almost form a narrow tube.
