A little more autumn colour.

17 comments

Well at last the autumn colour has arrived, but alas, I haven’t been back to Westonbirt yet, but Brendan was out walking today and took this picture before the rain came down ( he got soaked ) and had to scuttle home. Considering there was no sunshine I think it came out really well. I do so love the wonderful russet glow.

Also, I went to the G.C on Sunday to buy five Heucheras , one Nandina Domestica,two Osmanthus Heterophylus and two Callicarpa Bodinieri, but as the Heucheras were £8.99 each, and the Nandina was £35 and the Callicarpa was out of stock but would have been about the same, I came away with only three Heu’s, and two heathers. Oh, and the Osmanthus were £20 each. Phew!!! prices really have rocketed, haven’t they?

Hi Breda . . . the phrase "win some, lose some" comes to mind! What an absolutely fantastic photo - added to favourites pronto. But what a disappointment to be confronted by such OTT prices :(( That was a great list you went with: I love Nandinas . . . I wonder if I could try taking a cutting or three? Will let you know ...

Wow - that would make a great 'wallpaper' for your computer wouldn't it?

I went to Highfield, near Gloucester and I have felt for some time that their prices were OTT. Won't bother any more as I saw some of these plants on the web at much lower prices. I have not got the Callicarpa yet but may get some from Burncoose when in stock...

Thanks, Sheilar and Sticky, aren't the colours lovely?

Thanks Sheila, I'm sure you will come up trumps. You are so kind;

Have you found any good books lately? I'm growing a little tired of historical fiction as I have read such a lot of it. My son is reading 'Wolf Hall' and it is taking even him a while to plough through it and his appetite for books is voracious. Keep well;

A gorgeous photo Breda.
Those prices are outlandish, serves them right if they get stuck with the lot, mind you we shouldn`t be surprised should we, its happening with everything...

I've also added this one to my favourites!

Hi Sheilar and Lincs. Thanks Sheilar, nice of you, and thank you L. for your nice comment. When I tell Brendan how much you all like his photos he just looks sheepish, but I know that he is really secretly pleased as he keeps on taking more. But I don't mind at all as I now have a smashing gallery of pix and along with that I also have all my wonderful photos from my GOY friends. Great; isn't it?...

Bit dangerous to ask me about books, Breda, I might "go on" a bit! Yes, recent good reads include A Gathering Light by Jennifer Donnelly; Boy in the World by Niall Williams; The Paris Wife by Paula McCain, and Reading in Bed by Sue Gee. Good luck. :))

Thank you Hywel. I was a pity I didn't like the prices; Lol...

And thank you Sheila, I have made a note of these. I did look for A Gathering Light at the library, but no luck so I will have to try Waterstones. All the best...

Hi, Breda - I took a couple of attempts to get through "Wolf Hall", but once I really got going I found it an amazing and incredibly well-written book. I've re-read it twice and discover something new each time. It's a shame, I have tried others by Hillary Mantel without such enjoyment. I'd be interested to hear what your son thinks. I love your picture too. We used to love going to Westonbirt - one of our favourite visits and breathtaking in autumn. It must be more than 10 years ago now since we've been there. Sigh........

Hi, Gattina, Thank you for your nice comment. Glad you enjoyed "Wolf Hall". Brendan hasn't finished it yet, just about 200 pages to go. Will discuss it by PM if that's OK...

What a fantastic picture. Its the best Autumn picture I have ever seen. I wish there was some way to keep members beautiful pictures on hold as they would make lovely paintings.
