Adding plants to the waterfall and pond

Hi all, came home the other day and found 6 floating water hyacinths in the pond. There were also some plastic water lilies which I chose to ignore!
Today we went to the garden centre and bought yet more compost to fill in the frame round the pond. We also got two of each ornamental grasses in dark red and green. The names are ‘cortaderia white plume’ and ‘pennisetum setaceum rubrum’. We planted loads of crocus and dwarf daffodil bulbs around the edges of the pond. The electrician has been and has promised to sort out an outside supply for the pump etc. It all seems to be coming together now.

Yes its all coming together now, and as Drc26 says, come Spring you really will see things beginning to look mature. How about some Canadian pondweed which will help to keep the water healthy and a few Ramshorn snails which do the same. Maybe a small basket of Marsh Marigolds (caltha palustris) on a shelf, for a splash of bright gold in Spring. Ooh I'm getting excited myself.
Its lovely to see the progress. I must calm down!

Yes Mad know what you mean The frogs and newts may well just arrive on their own as mine did? Also the lovely insects you get hovering above water? I found once neighbours find out you have a pond they think every frog and newt is yours and they knock on the door to give you back one they have found in their own garden.

I know Drc726, my nextdoor neighbour once knocked at the door, holding a margarine box containing a froglet no bigger than a bluebottle, and said I guess this must be your's so I brought it round because I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO FEED IT ON!
Our garden was swarming with them! Watch out Buttybabe.

Yes Mad next door knocked last night with a newt minus a bit of tail (her cats) I just took it and put it near the pond. it was so tiny and we could see its heart contracting so must have been very stressed but it seemed ok.
