My first highlights and a little sadness..

Firstly, my Abutilon, which really did suffer from drought when I left it last summer in the courtyard has rallied and is starting to flower.
Then there’s Pteris umbrosa, a very beautiful, but not fully hardy fern-like plant. It really got beaten up in gales during the winter. So much so that I had to cut it back to the ground. I thought I’d lost it but no, here it is…
And here is my first rose bud opening up on R. Odyssey. I have my favourite 4 roses. This one, Chartreuse De Parme, Grace and Scented Garden. All have buds having been bought as bare roots in December just before I became ill. Scott bought lovely pots for me to keep them in and potted them up for me. Those pots now contain Patio clematis.
And here’s one of the patio clems I chose. This one is growing on in a plain pot until I decide where it should go. Clematis ‘Darcy’.
Cistus ‘Silver Pink’. I have three, all getting going now and bringing something a bit mediterranean to the garden. I will mention, although I have designed a Mediterranean style courtyard style garden, I am not going to try to grow plants that would not thrive here. It’s an English planting scheme really. Just the plants I love!
Finally, an actual Mediterranean plant! I am trying to grow an Almond tree in a pot. It’s doing well, and in spite of the awful wet weather during blossom time, I have one Almond. I went to admire it, only to discover the branch was broken. Aaaargh! So I cut it and am admiring it in a vase. Oh well…maybe next year!

That's a shame about the Almond tree Karen!
Hopefully it will do better as the year goes on and if we hae a summer!

I do hope your Almond picks up through the better months Karen.
I do love Mediterranean gardens and the style.
I try to add some touches of the Mediterranean while gardening when I can.

Thanks everyone! The Almond tree is doing well. I think either myself or the wind snapped the little branch. But the tree is generally ok. Paul, I have 2 tiny apples forming, but they will probably fall off if I don’t get the watering right!

Interesting to see your garden choices and its evolution, Karen. I was very tempted by the abutilons on holiday (so much more choice there than here..) but couldn't find the deep red I would prefer to have. Just as well, no space left at all! I shall enjoy yours..

Ange, this has been a tricky plant, but it’s struggling on. :)

I've grown the megapotanicum in the past, and that was easy, but I can't say I liked it much.

I had Kentish Belle in my very first garden and I loved it. But boy do the aphids love them!
