It’s been another lovely day, and i hope everyone has made the most of of it …. I didn’t : ( been in the house most of the day, Bob has been doing some plumbing (have i spelt that right?) I’m glad to see the blue tits haven’t been decimated by our friend the Sparrow Hawk, as much as i like to see birds of prey, I don’t really want them in my small garden.
I need a bit of help, sorry this has nothing to do with gardening, It could be if i owned my own sheep. I need a roast leg of lamb recipe ….. please, I’m getting desperate, I have looked at lamb recipe till i don’t know what to do, they all seem complicated.
I’m not much of a cook and for the first time in my life (because i couldn’t get out of it) I have to cook for 4 people, next saturday. If anyone can help please let me know and i’ll send my email address to you.
Haven’t done bad not entertaining in all these years, It was bound to catch up with me.

Do you have a slow cooker (Crock-Pot) Daff? I make mine in a slow cooker and just put the lamb on top of a layer of sliced onions, sprinkle with herbs and add 4 oz of chicken broth. Cook for 6 hours and nice tender leg of lamb. Well done of course!

I never thought of that Wohlibuli, wouldn't it dry out ????

Not in a slow cooker, the low temp keeps the evap. down, so a lot less liquid is needed.

I'm very tempted to do the lamb in the slow cooker, I'm not use to it yet, we only got it last week.
Thanks Gilli, will let you know how things go, finger crossed.

Did it come with a recipe book? Cause any recipe for a beef or pork roast is adaptable as long as you use a lightly flavored broth ( or mix of white wine and broth). Rosemary goes well with lamb as do oregano and thyme. Good luck and have fun. That is the most important part!

Hi Daff if you use Waggers recipe you can put your potatoes around the joint and roast them, par boil them first about 6-10 mins depending on pots, usually takes about 1 hour 30 mins. round the joint.

Thank you, I feel much more confident about cooking a leg of lamb. I'm sure most people have had snow last night and this morning, I've had to go and put some more bird food out, the Blackbirds were pacing up and down in front of the window and chasing each other, a comical sight.

Depends if you like your lamb pink or well done. If the first, a half hour sizzle at 220-230C (preheated) then turn down to 180C for 30-45mins - depends on size. If you like it well done a long slow roast makes it much more tender. 150c for as much as four hours until it just pulls apart with a fork. Less to go wrong with this method. Always nice to make slits in the skin and push in slivers of garlic and small sprigs of rosemary.
