Easter

It’s been a lovely Easter, even thought the weather’s not been too good. We’ve had a Kestrel in the garden, and a Fox, I couldn’t believe my eyes, It was about 1.30pm, I was in the garden and this fox came over the fence, looked at me and just sauntered off into the next garden, curled up and went to sleep, he/she must have been there for over 2 hours.

Well the holidays are over and i’m back to work tomorrow (tues) My rota has been changed at work, so now i get nearly all the bank holidays off, not that we get that many.

We’re laying a new gravel path through the garden, (Rustic Chippings) that’s what the gravel is called, It’s looking lovely, but what a price …. and we still need about 8 bags.

The pond is full of Newts, we’ve had to put the tadpoles into a large container with pond weed and something on the top, the Newts just eat them, I hope they survive in there, I go out with a torch when it’s dark and try to count how many we have, the last count was about 11 what i call smallish ones and 3 larger ones, only saw 5 frogs, there was a lot of snails on the path, I put them all in a carrier bag tied the bag up and put it in the dustbin, what are the odds on them getting out : )

Your fox sound very tame Is that the first time you have seen it?

All slugs and snails should be called Houdini! That's a lot of newts - your pond must be ideal for them.

Pleased you,ve had a good weekend its a good idea saving tadpoles and they should be fine at least they stand a better chance away from the newts Its never occurred to me to put snails in the bin in a bag and must admit I,ve had to smile at that thought.........

Glad to hear you enjoyed your weekend. Your garden pond must be an ideal location for you to have so many tadpoles, newts and frogs. How lovely to have such wildlife.

Donnah, It's the first time that i've ever seen a fox so close, I've seen them in the distance, this one looked old. My neighbours have told me that there is a fox, I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not.

Wagger, I looked this morning and they were still in the bag, They have 2 weeks to escape.

Lincslass, what should i feed the tadpoles on, I have some fish food, I wonder if they'll eat that. ????

Gilli, I love going out with the torch and looking around the garden, I'm still hoping to find some slow worms.

Hollyeves, Thank you, as much as i like to see birds see prey ..... I would rather that they didn't visit, for the sake of the smaller birds.

Hi Gail...lucky you to have newts and well done for rescuing the tadpoles. They will eat a little mince [fresh] or bit of cat/dog food !Hope this helps.....

Thank you Bonkersbon, I would never have thought of cat/dog food or even mince, I will get some tomorrow, I have heard that when they start turning into frogs (getting their legs) that they will eat live bloodworm, have you heard of that???

By the way...just looked in my book and apparently give meat or fish flakes only when legs develop..until then boiled shredded lettuce...sounds yukky, but they love it !

mmmmmm does sound yukky, but i'll get some today and try it, I'd love them to survive.
Thanks for the information, Gail x

Got some, boiled it, let it go cold then put it in with the tadpoles, It doesn't smell, I only did a small amoun, will just have to wait and see, They'd better survive, the price of lettuce is silly.

The foxes do seem to be about most of the day now don't they. I quite often see one crossing the fields when I go for a ride on my bike. Also, at Easter I was walking our dog(Paddy) past the local allotments and Paddy started fussing. When I looked, there was a Fox sitting in the longish grass, watching us at about 9.30am.
