Tree Duck

This duck was nesting in the tree next to our caravan pitch. Apparently they do sometimes nest in trees although I had never seen it before.

Agreed Pamg and even more safe than when there are rocks below! I only hope the ducklings are really good at gliding...

How long has she been sitting? I read its around 28 days.....poor babies having to learn to fly before they can swim!

Clever duck, knew it was safe there.

they are very light and bounce well when they do leave the nest. the feathers act as a brilliant cushion.

lol. The last time we had a barbecue in the garden (sadly a few weeks back) we were watched by a couple of ducks who were standing on the ridge of the house opposite. We wondered if really they had their eye on making themselves at home in the pond. We haven't seen them since.

I don't know how long she'd been sitting Pam. The first we knew was when she emerged from the tree one evening and flew off for about 15 mins then came back and flew straight back into her tree. She did this every day we were there, only six days sadly. I'm sorry I won't be there to see the ducklings emerge.
