Camellia and uninvited garden guests

What I lovely sunny chilly day. The Camellia picture was taken hastily, when I heard frost was on its way. Sure enough, this morning, everything was white and the pretty flowers will turn brown if repeated too much. Our overnight guest was Ginger Feral. In a shallow box on a garden seat under the verandah. Another smaller box added this morning while he was off, either to his real home, or foraging. I don’t feed him. He looks very well on whatever he begs or finds elswhere. Then Mr Fox arrived around 12.30pm. On the roof of the gazebo. Doesn’t give a stuff about anyone seeing him. Escaping the fleas again, I suspect. He snuffled about and had 2 or 3 foxy stares at me and then settled down for a snooze in the winter sunshine on the corner of the roof. A magpie dive bombed him, but he wouldn’t move. Been there about an hour now. My plaster is off my left ankle for about a week but not all that comfy to walk far. It has been a very eventful week, but thankfully not us having hospital based dramas this time round. We have felt like its Coronation Street or Ennerdale at times. It passes the time for 2 more or less housebound people to while away the winter days!!!!!!!!
This is the oldest Camellia in the garden. It was here when we moved in over 25 years ago. It blooms early in a mild winter but last year waited until March
Ginger Feral has been vagabonding in the garden off and on for about a year. No feeding done. Won’t let you get near and hisses at everyone else but me.
Mr Fox has probably had a busy night! So it’s sunny and roofs don’t usually have a flea population. So its a nice place in the sun to get a rest. The local magpies don’t like him there and there have been 2 flyovers to try and make him go.
Sitting to survey the scene, plus a foxy stare at me.
Just a sniff to see if anyone else has visited.
Settled on the corner of the roof, for about an hour. No longer there when I went back in the kitchen to put tomato soup on the hob.

The barber came to cut OH hair after he finished in his funny old shop round the corner. He's older than OH, who's 81, and still snipping away. Even the chemist comes round to do a blood test on OH too. Barber went out to the garden to put out the hair cuttings and foxy ran over the stepping stones in front of him 1.30pm.....wonder where he was curled up? I think on one of the seat cushions. Ginger Feral nowhere to be seen. It enlivens the day!

The Camellia is gorgeous Dorjac as are your other pics, we don`t have foxes around here even though we are on the outskirts of town probably a good thing as a number of our neighbours have acquired chucks in recent years.
Your little fellow is quite happy in his sunny spot as is the ginger cat, lol.
Good to hear you are on the mend, take it steady whilst your ankle heals, with all your garden visitors you have plenty of reasons to sit in the warmth and watch whats happening..

What an amazing and beautiful camellia, Dorjac! Your ginger feral looks sooooo like our ginger feral, they could be twins - ours does a lot of hissing, too. I think ferals have such a hard time of it in winter, poor things. Foxy gentleman looks in very good nick, though, doesn't he? They can get quite fearless over time, and we have had them wandering into the house before now, so watch out!

Just the thing for someone with a sore ankle - sit back and wait for it all to come to you! Lovely photos!

Beautiful camellia, Dorjac, far more advanced than mine - I have lots of buds but only one small flower. My white one has now been hit by two heavy frosts and the flowers are now brown! Great photos of your fox visitor - I would love to see one in my garden but I doubt if Millie would like it.
Glad you are no longer 'plastered' - it will take a while before you feel comfortable walking, just take it slowly and carefully. Best wishes to you and OH :)

I couldn't remember whether you damaged your arm or lower limb on that muddy place in the woods some time back Gee? I suppose I'm being too pushy at my age to think that my ankle would feel OK right after being deplastered. I do know mature persons wrists can be slow to return to full comfort. So frustrating when there are all sorts of jobs ( mostly small) that need doing in the garden. The 4 legged ones are certainly aware that I'm not out there as much as usual.

Mostly I've just suffered bruises and grazes, Dorjac - apart from the broken finger which is still rather unbendable in spite of 3 months physio. I do try to be more careful in the woods now and to look where I'm going instead of looking out for fungi, birds, etc :)

The poor Camellia is looking a bit less pink this morning, after another sharp frost overnight. At least the sun is shining. There are lots of birds about, feeding off my untidy, shaggy garden foliage, a pair of great tits bustling about. Two robins that seem quite friendly. Starlings snatching grapes. I see a fatball has gone off the hanging bird table.....Foxy I expect. Mrs Blackbird on the ground under the seed feeders. Yesterday I noted a Foxy stash in the border. A lamb leg bone from someones Xmas bin bag pushed into the ground. Another 2 litre bottle extracted from near the apple trees, and used on the 'lawn' to amuse. Nothing like having a large wild dog in your garden.

Three cheers today, the first trip out for OH to North Weald Airfield Naafi for a bacon sarnie and cheese on toast. The lady cooks in the Naafi were pleased to see us, and brought us a 'drive through' serving of 2 coffees and the rest of our order to the car parked near the planes. OH not safe yet on rough ground. Then my first visit to a GC since 2/12/11.....50% off perennials and other things too.....so a bit of a spend.

sorry! for a moment I raed that as "Camilla" - wondered what she and Charles had been up to now!
Lovely pics; do you mind the fox visiting?

We had 2 more visits this morning around 9.30am Fran. A pretty vixen being stalked by a beaten up old dog fox. She definately was not interested, but he was very persistent. I am concerned they are denning somewhere near, as there are so many this year. The very mild winter is one cause, and not being in the garden so much too. When Alf nextdoor died and his house was empty for periods of time they cubbed 3 times. I'm sure Spooky and Ginger the ferals can cope. Iv'e seen cats out in the street just sit there while a fox strolls by.

Hi Dorjac ...
Wow ... what a lot of garden visitors ...
and great photos too...
I hope sincerely your walking becomes less painful, and that, as springtime approaches, you two both become more mobile and able to enjoy your gardens.
Keep warm and safe. xxx
