Whats your gardening/country plans for today?

Ive a few concrete urns and a statue ive managed to get in the work shop and im going to give them a lick of outdoor paint to help them look nicer than they do now for the spring flowers they’ll be getting,
Now’s a good time as they’re empty.

Ive two urns with round shaped box in them and in the winter they still look nice, still show the gardens alive when most colour isn’t tobe seen And with the help of the spiders webb’s i find first thing most mornings they look both creepy but welcoming,
Spiders may scare the bones out of a lot of people but their offerings ref the web they make really are a work of art, “nature at its best” And not a sound tobe heard while in production.

Well whats your plans for today?

In view of the fact that the electricity cables are being renewed in my road I'm confined to quarters, its our turn this week so I have a huge machine digging up the driveway, a hole being made through the walls of the house and workmen back and front, the dogs are shut indoors but as the weathers not good today they really don't mind,...I love to see the cobwebs all sparkling as they trail across the gardens and am ok as long as I don't walk into them, then its a case of a windmill dance to escape and "YES" a quick look around to make sure the neighbours haven't noticed and think I'm having a mad moment, LOL...
Bit miffed really as some plants I ordered have arrived and I cannot go down the g'house to plant them up until the workmen have finished for the day, I'm taking advantage of my being stuck indoors to catch up on some pics on Goy.....

Keep my head down and avoid walking under any trees with the dog, we have lots of local damage after last nights storms.

sitting watching the rain as I recover from a nasty tummy bug that has had me confined to bed/bathroom for 2 days :(

A good day for me despite the rain, which isn't half as bad as forecast ..yet..and no gale force winds either..a visit into town,to the Opticians was urgent,as when I called in on Monday,to have one of the arms tightened on my glasses,I noticed she had been over zealous with the heating of it,to bend it back into shape..resulting in two cracks in it..no other branches stock a replacement arm,and neither does the manufacturer...so I am now awaiting a brand new pair at no cost to me..which is a huge saving ,coupled with the complex lenses I need ..and better still I found a pair I actually liked ! :o)..and still my favourite colour frame ..Purple :o) Don't you just love it,when a bad thing turns out for the best ? Lol.

I will probably get the "Idiot of the Year" award for the most inappropriate activity. At 8 this morning I was hosing down the garden, trying to wash the mud away from my recent mini-make over. However the sun did come out for a bit afterwards, but it is pouring now. So have spent the last two hours ordering new plants for the garden. Yes this is the garden that I promised myself I would spend NO more money on. So far two trees, two conifers, three ground cover and two shrubs.

Not "Idiot of the Year " at all,Nannijii..it's what a lot of us do..my problem is wondering where to plant them..what did you buy? The Sun just appeared here..short lived I think..I might just get into the shed for a little while ..
The heated Propagator needs to be brought indoors, ready for action soon :o)

What to do in the garden today? Run through it head down as fast as possible!

5 Feb, 2014

Robinia pseudocacia, Corylus purpurea, Juniperus squatmata blue carpet, Juniperus horizontals blue chip. Lamium Beacon Silver, Gypsophilia, and Brunnera Jack Frost. Have not pressed the send button yet as I do not want them to arrive until March. Despite the Fence falling down in early January, the guys cant install the new one till Feb 28. The longer this goes on, the more of the garden I seem to be clearing. I have lots in pots waiting to go back in, just hope I have room for it all.

What are you doing today?. I worked for 10 hours today so that I can pay my mortgage again next month.

I remember those days Rogi ...

All my plans went out the window after I received some distressing news from my brother
:o( Can't say what ! I'm always a bag of nerves ... and now I am a worse bag of nerves, wondering what will be the outcome :o(
I hope everyone else has had a better day !

I filed an insurance claim against the Local Council.

I tried to miss the worst of the weather.

5 Feb, 2014

A walk on the beach , followed by a hasty retreat back home , far too blowy .
Sorted seeds again ; I do seem to have a lot !
I hope all is OK for Hywel .
The girls are all busy dreaming of new plants , but poor old Stera is in a deluge .

Nannijii, that's what I would do too if my plants were covered in mud. Our next door neighbour washed his car in the rain!!!! Beat that if you can!!!

5 Feb, 2014

I was waiting in for the delivery of two plant orders that arrived at lunchtime. The rain then stopped long enough to get them unpacked, and the contents squeezed into the greenhouse

5 Feb, 2014

Taking a step back. Made the mistake of showing my husband the order. He said I thought we were having less plants (work) not more. Now rethinking that little corner for something else.

Andrew, hope you don't mind me asking, which plants plants did you buy and were they from a specialist nursery?

Nannijii, you'll find a way..us gardeners are adept at finding spaces to fit plants into even if it does mean a bit of rearranging - have fun!

6 Feb, 2014

Helenium - The orders were from two small nurseries I have used before:
Cotswold Garden Flowers (www.cgf.net) and
Long Acre Plants (www.plantsfoshade.co.uk)

I bought a mixture of 'ordinary' plants and unusual ones, including a specie eremurus which I have been trying to source for a few years

Nannijii , rule no.1 , don't let OH know too much about how many plants are acquired , they can't always cope with the info !

6 Feb, 2014

good advice Driad. I should have known better but I was so excited about my internet trawl that I shared the info with him before he had his second cuppa. I will try again on Saturday if Arsenal manage to pound Liverpool.

6 Feb, 2014

I've also just bought a Corylus purpurea, Nannijii . . . amazingly it was FREE with a Malus Butterball from mailordertrees.co.uk. (cos they are bare-root). Both still wrapped up together in the garage, but hope to plant them out tomorrow . . . had to let OH know as he helps with tearing them out of their packaging! (But he has said 'I hope that's the lot?').

6 Feb, 2014

Helenium, if you bryush shampoo over the can and leave it the rain will do the rest for you...
Driad - thanks for the sympathy! I need new wellies, mine leak...

6 Feb, 2014

Andrew, thanks for the info, I've bought from Long Acre Plants before which I have to say were excellent! I've never tried Cotswold Garden Flowers - although I have heard of the owner, Bob Brown. I might give them a try this year.

Steragram LOL - that is a good idea! The rain was pouring, when the neighbour in question was out with sponge & shampoo, then...he hosed it off!

No imagination...
