Fiordland New Zealand

I haven’t been very active on here since before Christmas, so thought it was high time I put up another blog. Was going to do this blog on our visit to Ashurst Bush Reserve & Manawatu River with our younger dog yesterday. Sadly, I can only load photos from my digital camera onto our main computer & it has another glitch, so will use pics I have on my IPad instead, & take you on a journey through our breath-taking Fiordland, way down the bottom of the South Island. I am sure you will enjoy it. A very beautiful place to visit. I might even go as far as to say, this might just be one of the most awesome places on our planet … But you can decide that for yourselves.
Map of NZ to show you where the Fiordland National Park is situated.
The start of your adventure.
For fitter, more adventurous people who want to go tramping through the Fiordlands, they have created this walkway to start you off on your long journey. Can be slippery in the winter,
For less fitter, but equally adventurous people, one can view the Fiordlands from the air, via helicopter ….very expensive!
Primeaevil forest for intrepid trampers to explore …very Jurassic Park.
Entering Milford Sound by boat.
Alpine flowers growing wild in Milford Sounds.
Lupins growing wild in the Fiordlands.
Mitre Peak in the Fiordlands National Park.
View from helicopter of crater lake inside a volcano, with very long waterfall spilling down side ….spectacular.

Absolutely wonderful and just my cup of tea! I have added this blog to my favourites so I can remember exactly where I want to go when I win the Spanish lottery!

Thank you everyone. I live in the North Island, so the Fiordland National Park is a lonnnnnnnggggg way by car. It's a 3 hour drive from where we live to Wellington, right at bottom of North Island. Then the ferry crossing across Cook's Strait, between the islands takes about 3 hours. From Picton, where the ferry docks, right down to Fiordland takes over 13 hours by car, so a total car journey 16 hours plus 3 hours on the ferry as well. If we lived further up the island, say in Auckland, you would add another 7 hours driving time onto that, & obviously more if you lived even further up.

funny how you never realise how big a place is until you have to travel its length! I expect those not living in the UK think its a small country but it takes a long time to travel from the north to the south of it!
