First of February

After a dusting of snow last night, the garden looked very pretty in the morning sun. A few photos for you. Winter is definitely not over, but the sun is higher in the sky each day.
A pair of juncos are enjoying the nyger seed I spread on the snow for them this morning.
The view this morning is spectacular. The cove is free of ice, but Port Medway harbour across the bay is still iced up.
And the amaryllis continue to amaze!
Still can’t get the car down the drive, but perhaps warmer temperatures tomorrow will melt the ice before the freezing rain hits again on Tuesday – ahhhhhhh…. winter in Canada!

Great blog! It's a very picturesque view you have there!

Oh boy! I can not say that I miss living in the north. Every time I see pics like yours I am glad I live in Georgia! My sister lives in PA and I am so glad I don't have to shovel the sidewalk or push the car down the driveway like we used to have to do. Lived in PA twice as a kid and was always thankful to move back to the south!

Lovely photos but it sure does look cold.

Enjoyed your blog, and your photos are lovely, especially the amaryllis, such a beautiful colour.

Lovely photos and My, oh My! That view!
Amaryllis really are very helpful at this time of year, aren't they - particularly for folks like you with snow and more snow.

We have beautiful snow here in Wisconsin right now too, but the view of Port Medway you have is much better then my view of hills!

Hi Elke, thanks for the lovely photos. It is almost as good as a visit.
You seem to have good light levels, it is a very grey light here. The sun did come out for an hour or so today, but there was no warmth in it.

Thanks for your comments! Yes, Marge, the light is wonderful here. When we first arrived in Montreal in 1972, it was one of the first things I noticed. The sky seems so much 'higher' here somehow. Although we do get more low cloud and fog down here on the East Coast, it's still very bright compared to the UK. And in Yorkshire you're even further north. We have family in Cumbria and friends in Thirsk, and when we visit in winter (when the air fares are more reasonable), I am always surprised by how short the days seem. Growing up in Cornwall was perhaps different - places like St. Ives attracted artists because of the special light there.
The sun was very warm today, and I only wore a windproof jacket on our walk (see my Winter Walk blog). In a sheltered spot you could have almost sat out and sunbathed.

Snow is forecast for Britain over the next few days, but not nearly so much as you have in Nova Scotia !
