Sea, sand & sunshine ... a luverly day!

Our nearest seaside town is Weymouth & as the Phoebe cat woke me at 5.45 this morning saying she was ravenous & why weren’t we up I thought it would be a good day to go as the sun was up & at ‘em already!
I know I did a blog on Weymouth last year so I won’t repeat the same photos here but this is more of the architecture & people & boats rather than the municipal flower beds which is why it’s in the ‘other’ category.

The weather report said sunny/showery/breezy/chilly/warm for the southwest (covered every eventuality there then!) so hubby cycled off to Dorchester in full Lycra … not a pretty sight! … & the plan was that I picked him up there & we went onto Weymouth. Not that he couldn’t have cycled all the way there but I have a bit of trouble driving very far these days with my 95 year old, achy hips!

So … I managed to find him lurking in a layby & he changed … thankfully! … & put the bike in the car.

Got to Weymouth at about 9,30 & had a full English in full sun overlooking the sea … yummy but felt like I should’ve been having croissants & freshly squeezed!… then walked along the beach which was fairly quiet as it was so early.

View along the harbour…

If you can’t or don’t fancy the walk around the harbour & over the bridge to the other side you can take a little boat across for 50p per person … reminds me of the song ‘who pays the ferryman?!’

The boats here in the harbour & marina are just stunning … I wish I could do them justice with my camera …

See that cruiser at the back? That’s my next birthday present!

This was a father & son on their boat … Dad was teaching the boy to tie a nautical knot & my hubby was most impressed! Me? Just made me want to hug the little chap…

Just a few shots of the lovely buildings … the beautiful old red brick Devonish Brewery that is now ‘Brewers Quay’ & houses shops & cafes …

What is now a pub …

And the Post Office building …

Some kind of church which has been painted pink & looks a bit Corinthian & incongruous?

And the shop fronts in the main high street…

Lastly … the bridge is raised every 2 hours for vessels to pass thru’ … & I just happened to be sat in the Kings Arms opposite with a pint of cider!

We had a little tub of fresh prawns, fish ‘n’ chips on the quay & an Italian ice cream with a flake … just lovely!
Tomorrow … I start a diet so today was about enjoying myself!

P.S. When I down loaded these photos to my laptop they all looked out of focus & fuzzy. When I viewed them on hubby’s PC they were perfect. What’s going on? Can you tell me if they are rubbish or ok? It may depend on what you are viewing them on. Thank you!

I just love Weymouth. Havent been there for many years now. Last time I went there the temps went up to 91 F lol, and it was too hot to go around !

The photos are all fuzzy for me. - or maybe it's because I've lost my specs lol

31 May, 2010

Hywel, you STILL haven't found your specs. ? Are you straining your eyes or did you have a spare pair ?

Had to laugh at your description of the cycling lycra as we were stuck behind a whole group a couple of days ago :) What a lovely day out, sunshine, sea air and good food/drink - what more could you ask for? Thanks for sharing.

To Shirley - I bought a pair in pound land lol and they are ok for now. My test is due in August so I'll manage until then.

Looks a lovely place for a day out. Glad you enjoyed it. The pictures are a bit fuzzy, but then I have had a glass with my dinner, and things are usually fuzzy after that ........... lol.

Thanks everyone ... the camera gave up the ghost half way round & I used hubby's mobile as he can download them on his PC. The pics were perfect on there so it must have been when he sent them to me to post. Grrr!
Oh well ... with Hywel losing his specs & Silverbelle slightly inebriated it doesn't matter!
Gee ... those 'roadies' as my husband calls them (he's a mountain biker - tho' I fancy the mountain bit is irrelevant where we live!) are always getting in the way on the roads ... in their matching pink & turquoise Lycra! Hubby only wears a pair of 'manly' black Lycra shorts but they look slightly obscene to me!! Hence why he had to change!
Thanks Dee, Daylily & Bloomer ... it was a fab day out ... 5/10 for photographic effort ... could do better!! :o)
