Divorce or lock the beer fridge?

I have just posted a rather inferior pic of one of the beautiful orange day lillies that are my pride & joy in the garden. They have flowered valiantly DESPITE my husbands best efforts back in early summer to sabotage them!
He had bought a little ‘put it up yourself’ shed from Focus, to go behind the summerhouse to store the mower, barbecue etc etc.
Frankly, with a big shed, a summerhouse & a greenhouse in a small garden, I thought we had enough storage already…but I digress!
So…the instructions say ‘protect against the weather by painting with a suitable sealant’…ok, no problem there…except the instructions didn’t say ‘prop the shed panels up against the fence right on top of your wife’s favourite day lillies & splash the stinking, brown, creosote – based liquid liberally all over the leaves!
If he said ‘aw…they’ll be alright’ once he said it a hundred times & showed absolutely no remorse…so…my choice was…divorce…or lock the beer fridge for a day or 2 to teach him a lesson?
I decided divorce was a tad drastic in the circumstances so his favourite tipple was denied him.
Guess where I found him…declaring his innocence? Down the pub…:0(

my husband is the same way, its just another plant is what I get until I tell him how much it cost. My next step is to make him replace it and hopefully he will learn not to sabotage them

It is too SBG...We visited hubby's rellies a few years ago...it was a lovely place...the old coalmine slag heaps covered in grass, the Coronation St. type houses with the little coalshed in the back yard & tha alleys running along the back...just great. So very different from where I come from. And the nearby beach was fab...clean, empty & beautiful. I love the geordie accent...ever heard Jimmy Nail singing 'Love don't live here anymore'? You can even hear his accent in that!! Sorry ...random link!! :0)

I think I'm married to your husband's twin brother! I hate it when he sets foot (literally) out in the garden and the plants all cringe. How many times have I heard that 'it'll be alright' or 'stop fussing woman' as his size 13 feet and 20 stone bulk trample another tiny defenceless plant into oblivion. Ah well, at least it was a quick end and it didn't suffer! Come to think of it, it could mean I just HAVE to make another trip to the garden centre........
Yes I agree divorce is a tad drastic, they do have a few uses, like going to work and earning money!

You're very patient with him Fluff.
Think i'd have chosen the former.

Have one for me, husband.

Yes you're right Lily2...& he does mow the lawn, make the compost, clip the edges, clean out the water butt & when I make a pile of weedings in the middle of the lawn he clears up after me...so he's a good boy really!
And Bulbaholic...he'll have several for you! :0)

Well Fluff, it sounds like you have a better deal than me. Mine is better at making a mess than clearing it up - it's usually me that gets that job.....clean out the water butt??...nobody does that in our garden, well I've got to draw the line somewhere! As I said, he does earn the money but he is retiring in a few months so that's his trump card nearly gone and he doesn't like beer so it might just have to be the alternative!

8 Jul, 2009

Oh dear Lily2...what are you going to do with him home all day then?! It's fair to say it's all those years of working that have earned him the right to relax in the garden...or do you have plans for him??!!
We have to clean the butt out as it gets slimy & also our friend helped to decorate the living room last week & washed his brushes & roller out in the rainwater butt...what a rat...the water turned a dubious colour & I was a bit worried about using it on the plants. Luckily it rained cats 'n' dogs the next day & diluted it all!! :0)

I t wouldn't be any good me having plans for him as he'll do what he wants anyway. He says the same about me - but that's not true! I think I might have to start going out more to escape but no doubt I'll get used to having him around!
Only one of my water butts gets smelly and we did clean it out together once but I don't fancy doing it again- one day maybe. Your friend certainly was a rat to contaminate the whole lot but I suppose help comes at a price!
