Any old iron?!

My husband is an avid cyclist & until January worked for a local cycle shop…an old lady came in one day saying she’d like to get into cycling again & bought a brand new bike.
She asked him where she could dispose of her old one…& after looking it over guess where he suggested?

Oh yes…our garden! Apparently it’s an antique…with wooden pedals & block brakes…so it was a shame to chuck it in a skip!

So…here it is & yes I planted it up to make a ‘feature’ of it…& also so that people didn’t think our garden was a scrapyard!

There’s Lysimachia, Diascia, mixed petunias, the little red flower which says Calibrachoa Red on the label & morning glory climbing up the eucalyptus tree behind!

Thanks Irish & Louise...I must admit I've warmed to it! :0)

Well! That's different!! :-)

I like different ideas in the garden and this is as 'different' as they get but it looks wonderful. :~))

Thanks Spritz & Ian...You can imagine my face when he brought it home! I tried using it to dry the washing on for a while but it looked a bit ridiculous with undies hanging off it!

Hey hey...don't want to be the cause of that...pull yourself together!! Lol :0)))

I have a very good sense of the ridiculous and quite a good imagination. Just the thought of a 'butchers boy' from yester-year riding down a cobbled street with undies flowing backwards from his bike Lol :~)))

Well Fluff having just come back from Hampton Court Flower Show where I saw flowers and veg growing out of socks, knickers and bras on a washing line, I think a bicycle basket seems an incredibly sensible place for planting.

my husband would have had it dismantled and renovated by now. i wouldnt be allowed to plant it up like this. lucky you.

Nor would I! I can just hear him saying 'The garage is the place for bikes!'

Pretty as a picture Fluff.

Novel, very well planted and very pretty. Shows you can turn anything into a planter if you set your mind to it.

Thankyou for all your comments...the bike is looking very bedraggled at the moment as it hasn't stopped raining all day. The petunia petals soak up the water & go all mushy.

I was telling Ian that I used it as a washing line for undies when I first got landed with it so maybe I should've planted them up too Ginellie!!

Hubby has 3 bikes already ( how many can you ride at one time?) so this old crock is staying put until it rots!! :0)

when i said that hubby replied with 'how many pairs of shoes do you need, you only wear one pair at a time?' stale mate ! :o)

HA !!!

Hmmmm....he's right of course but shoes don't take up all the shed & the spare room!! Just call me a saint! :0)

13 Jul, 2009

Behave Ian! ;0)

I agree about the shed, Fluff, but you mustn't be doing it right with the spare room. Imelda Marcos (and I'm sure thats not the right spelling) has nothing on Carol when it comes to shoes

Yeah...s'pose so...shoes arn't my thing...it's handbags with me! I'm a bag lady! :0)
