if anyone’s thinking of buying a water butt kit in the near future, now might be a good time – Argos has 100 ltr kits @ £19.99 – £10 cheaper than they were when I got mine, typical!

I've ordered a couple more - eventually I want both sheds guttered to lead into butts, but even before that need overfolow butts for the ones I have.

ps, they're also doing a garden hammock and stand for £30

if this goes on, soon I won't have any room in the garden for plants!

You should be asking for commission Fran ;) or at least getting them on a review basis.

My £40 water butt was a disaster, then I learned the washers on the outlet tap go rotten and need replacing every 6 months. I swopped it with a man who could fix the washers, and he gave me a compost bin. Then I got
a local council damaged wheelie bin, which does the job just as well. Free. Might be worth asking

there are a couple of sites on the subject, Diane, well, several I suppose, but a couple that I've found. I've already ordered these, delivery Monday, si I'm committed to them
But wheelie bins would ba a good idea for future ref: i want the sheds butted, and as the butts would be hehind them out of the way, wheelies would do as well as anything.
hmm, wonder if htey can be converted to compost bins? would need a panel cut out at the bottom and fixed back for access ... and being on wheels, would be handy to shift around!

All I know is they are damaged by the mechanism on the collection lorries, and discarded by local authorities.
Mine is fine, I fill it from the butt that is filled from the downpipe. Takes about 10 minutes.

I have 2 each is connected to a drainpipe and when it rains they fill very quickly. I also find them great for topping up the pond - I am thinking of getting more and using the linking kit to join them.

the article i read said that it's mostly the wheels that get damaged, and they're not needed for water butts: he contacted his local council, and was told that they have to pay to get rid of them, so they were happy to give them away - so happy that they actually delivered them to him!

Thanks Fran. I am after a water butt. Incidentally b@q have an offer on their slimline now - £20.
The only way I've seen a wheelie bin damaged is on the lip round the top of the bin. That's where the lifter on the back of the wagons fit. After a while they give quite often tipping the bin into the back of the wagon (done testing on wagons it's a shock when the bin fails lol). Not heard of the wheels failing yet.

that's what this bloke said in his article, maybe his council contraectors drop them back to the ground too heavily? *s*
