That's a pretty one Tet:-) I sometimes get a bit annoyed with crocosmia..you know...the way they spread and take over everywhere. Some have taken up home in my little bog garden! But they are lovely in flower and have such attractive leaves that they are worth the hard work of digging them out:-)

Thank you all (especially Sticki, you ole flatterer..love it lol!)
I know Yorkie, we cant all like the same flowers and I normally wouldnt go crazy over these, altho I wouldnt be without them..tend to scatter them in ones and twos thru the border now (Carol Klein's idea). I have a big clump of golden yellow ones in the hot border I will be thinning out after this year.
However, this one in front garden and I must admit the burnt orange with the dash of yellow is certainly an eyeful and they have flowered well this year.

I know these can be invasive but I find them handy for areas where nothing else does very well, such as under the apple trees. When they do become overbearing, you can easily dig 'em out!

I agree, and also when you dot them around in among slightly shorter, bushier plants..Im putting a few of my golden yellow ones close to blue geraniums next year

I love the colour of the buds...and that hot orange is great! I have C. Lucifer. it's is a very hot red...
Blue geraniums and red crocosmia??? that sounds interesting!

Errr...blue and golden yellow Lori..I still have a few Lucifer tho dug most up last year, they kept flopping over with the weight of flowers. Trouble is my Emily MacKenzie disappeared at the same time..must get a few more cos its a favourite of mine..

I have the powder blue Lobelia syphilitica...it's just starting to bloom...think it might be a nice combo with the golden yellow/orange. will have to look for Star of the East. (also...I have used tomato cages with great effect for floppies and for the peonies too...if they're put on early enough the unsightly metal is not visible when the plant flowers!)

Now I've gone and bought new crocosmias, some pinkish too...and it's your fault Tet:-( Here's the list... Limpopo, Mullard Pink, Pottsii Culzean peach, Rowallane Yellow, Zeal Giant. The main one I wanted was sold out!:-)

Why is it my girl that whenever you pop up you are always either blaming me for something or volunteering me for some outlandish task!!! How can I be blamed for your inability to withstand temptation??? Just cos I have the same disease doesnt mean I gave it to you...does it?
Ive heard of Culzean Peach and Zeal Giant...totally approve of Rowallane Yellow...a real cracker and large flowers of a real butter yellow, got it earlier this year and it has since flowered. Dont know the others...you've been looking at that Cornish site again havent you, you wicked girl..unless you went there on hols (where's the blog???)
Which one was sold out?

16 Aug, 2011

Yes, the cornish site, they came today, very quick sevice. It was Severn sunrise Tet...turns pinky...sounds lovely doesn't it:-)

Tet
there is plenty of it here C. Severn Sunrise that is.if you are low on stock ,just say and will see if i can get a spade under some for Bornagain.
Star of the East is just opening.

Thats really kind Bjs. Ive had this plant (originally 3 stalks) for over 4 years and I dont have more than 15 stalks now. Probly cos its close to a VERY vigorous daylily!
Mine is still in full flower so wouldnt be able to oblige BA for another month or so. So I would gratefully accept your offer on BA's behalf..sure she wont mind!
I will be thinning out my Star of the East later so can send her a few of those.

Great photo of your Crocosmia. I have several of them: theyare fab plants and the colour range is very varied really. Now, if only someone could develop a blue one....

How I wish! And I havent forgotten your seeds Gdad, have collected a few dead flowerheads and also trimmed some long shoots. Ive potted them on to see if they take. One for you if so.

28 Aug, 2011

Thank you very much Tetrarch! You are so kind. The 'Cornish' crocosmia website is where I get all mine from. The trouble is, they have loads that I would like and I dont really have the space at the moment.... or do I? I think the borders will have to be tidied up again next spring to make room for the other 10+ varieties I have on my wish list. Oh, and when the decking is done, Sonia did say she would like some nice plants in a few large planters.......

28 Aug, 2011

Well, if you can wait a little longer for the seeds, Im digging up some of these corms and you would be welcome to them.

28 Aug, 2011

You are an angel and so kind!!! A thousand thanks!!!!!

28 Aug, 2011

More like a cherubim Gdad lol! You know, the chubby kind!! And I do so hate throwing things away...its you..or Age Concern {:-D
