Thankyou :-)
Certainly is Jeanette:-)
Its a stunning shrub Youngdaisyd, I'll post another picture when all the flowers open it looks like its going to be the best its ever been :-) I have another one too 'Black Beauty' leaves not as divided as this one and doesn't seem as dark, still pretty though.

Mine still in bud Kathy, but not as nice as this one, I have Black Beauty but I prefer this one. So easy to take cuttings too. Do you have the golden one?
19 May, 2011
No I don't Dawn, did see it at a local nursery last year but at the time no space for it, but after last winter lots of gaps to fill so may go back:-) trouble is I'll end up with a car boot full if I go as they have soooo many lovely plants.

I'll have to send you some cuttings, so easy to grow.

I love the colouring of this one, it's so striking!

That would be great Dawn I could send you some cuttings off this one, I've never grown these from cuttings so you'll have to let me know when's the best time:-)
Thanks Janey:-)

Just planted one of these in my garden this afternoon. Bought it 2 weeks ago but couldn't decide where to put it. After much contemplation put it in a place where I can let it grow quite big and allow it to flower.

Autumn or Spring Kathy, when I cut mine down, I used them for stakes and they grew, literally just pushed them into the ground. I'l make a note so we dont forget, thank you.
Scottish, they do like room but can be cut back too. I love them.

Good idea Scottish :-)
Yes Dawn you'll have to remind me, my memory!!!!!:-)

Its a shame that mine is in a pot..havent got a space left thats big enough to show it off..looks stunning against yellow/yellow green leaves..still its doing well and I cut it down last year. Didnt know they were so easy for cuttings tho Dawn..must give that a try!

Hi simbad, just wanted to know (since this sambucus is so beautiful) why you say you can't grow acers??
21 May, 2011
I will Kathy.
Tetrarch. Yes, give them a try.
21 May, 2011
Jeanette our house is on the top of a hill so very exposed, acers just shrivel up with the wind :-(
Shame you've nowhere to put it Tetrarch its a stunning shrub, you can prune it hard though can't you to keep it in check,or do you loose the flowers then?, haven't pruned mine yet, lol, just let it do its own thing.
21 May, 2011
I pruned it late Autumn Simbad and I have lovely flowers on it now..
21 May, 2011
Right I'll remember that Tetrarch thanks, mine is getting rather large.
